THE PAST

"The nature of what Man calls the past is imperfectly grasped by most beings who are locked into the cycles of time. The past is not something which is distinct and separate from the present but is an integral and, in a sense, simultaneous pattern of events. All of time is but a single moment of duration (The Now), but it is man's consciousness which has narrowed the focus to the point necessary to perceive a present instant as distinct from both the past and the future."

"Man's actions in what He calls 'the past' remain ever with Him. The consequences of those actions follow Him throughout his existence and must be faced. The Principle of Karma, as it is understood by eastern philosophers, is an expression of the identity between the past, the present, and the future. This Law requires that all freely undertaken actions which bring pain or harm to another being of any kind in the Physical Universe represent a debt which must be met and set aside through equivalent experience in another phase of existence. Man perceives this cause-and-effect as separated in time due to the way He perceives duration. But as viewed from a Higher Reality, the cause and effect are not separated but are one. The delay that Man sees between any cause and its effect is a characteristic of the manner in which time and reality are perceived by his consciousness (an illusion)."
