"The wearing of any garment at all is an interference with the natural energy pathways in the physical, astral and aetheric bodies of Man. However, it is not to be expected that society could be quickly converted to the view that clothes wearing is something that should be avoided. In any event, in northern latitudes the wearing of some covering for warmth is quite essential in the present phase of man's experience upon This Planet."
"In certain past societies, a conscious or unconscious recognition of the fact first stated led to the developement of garments which had the least detrimental effect on the various bodies of Man. In certain portions of the Roman Experience, for example, extremely lightweight togas and robes were in fashion, and these were able to cover the body to the extent demanded by modesty without greatly interfering with the energy flows We have spoken of. Rome was, however, centered in a warm climate, and clothes were not needed so much for warmth."
"If clothes must be worn, the natural fibers tend to be better from the aspect of not interfering with the physical energy patterns to a great degree. However, both kinds of fabric do cause some interference."
"We should point out that the worst possible kind of garment, from all points of view, is leather. Leather comes from the body of an animal that has been killed by Man, and all who wear such clothing take on some of the karma related to that death. The karma is slight, however, compared to the damage done to the individual by the thought-form of fear and desperation which clings to every leather garment. This also includes furs, of course. The negative effect is considerably less when the article is smaller, for example a leather belt or leather shoes. Nonetheless, the detriment is still present."
