The custom of offering an animal in the form of sacrifice grew out of the ancient folk and nature religion, which promoted the view that The Creative Force was a jealous One and difficult to please and that, in order to avoid His anger, some part of what Man considered of value had to be offered up."

"What the early shamans and religious leaders failed to realize, however, was that the only sacrifice, the only 'offering up', which God wishes to see is the relinquishing of that which is dark and evil in man's soul.
