THE INFLUENCE OF NAMES
|
This teaching is one of a kind, and I am not aware of this information being available any place else. Hilarion provides the true meaning for the letter sounds in our names -- vowels, consonants, and dipthongs -- and just what particular influences those sounds exert on the developing personality of the incarnated individual. It is explained that the name sounds, especially in the first name, act as overlays or filters to traits which are developed in the early years of life and how The Guides of the one to be born influence the parents to choose the most suitable name considering the lessons and the karma and the inborn genetic tendencies of the upcoming life about to be experienced. I would highly recommend to any parents to be that they read this extraordinary teaching before choosing a name for their offspring and that they seek guidance in the matter (from The Guides) through dreams, meditation, intuitional input, or prayer. "There are no other sources (aside from this dissertation) from which the seeker can learn the effect of key language sounds found in a person's name and how to take control of these sounds and thus of the influences which they tend to exert." "In the case of virtually every birth, a deliberate attempt is made by the soul's Guides to tag the new personality with a name which will exert certain desired, formative influences on the developing personality. The primary mechanism for accomplishing this is to influence the parents in the days and weeks prior to birth, so that they will feel that a certain name is right for their child. In about 70% of cases, The Guides manage to have the parents select a name which contains at least one of the planned consonant or vowel sounds. About 50% of the time, the name selected by the parents is the precise one which The Guides prefer." "In those instances where the name is not the ideal one from the guides' point of view, an attempt is made in the early years of the life to develope a nick-name containing more of the desired sounds than are in the actual given name. However, this succeeds in only a minority of cases. The result is that a great many people are subjected to influences, arising from their own names, which produce effects that are, to some extent, unbalancing for the life pattern." "The parents of a newborn child can, through an appropriate name selection, exert a certain degree of influence on the incarnation about to be experienced, however the effects exerted by the name sounds represent only a minor influence on the individual. For the most part they function as a kind of filter or overlay upon the developing personality." "Through effort, will, and visualization, any of these effects perceived as negative or undesirable can be reversed, controlled, or modulated in a desired direction. Indeed, it can be said with confidence that no such test or trial is without benefit for the soul, since each effort at overcoming problematical traits (even those which are imposed from without as in the case of the name-sounds) provides for the individual a proving ground from which he or she can emerge strengthened by the demands of the struggle." "In terms of the letter-influences, the sounds of the first or given name are to be considered more important than those of the last name. Where a person uses a middle name as his usual appellation, then this would be taken to be the most important." "At the time when the parents are selecting a name for their child, The Guides and Guardians attempt to influence the choice in order to produce a first name which either a) reflects the traits or karma of the soul which is their child or b) will influence the pattern of the life in such a way that the karma will be encountered." "We now wish to set out the primary sounds which are used either to signify traits in an individual or to bring about certain patterns or events that are necessary in terms of the karma which the individual must meet while in incarnation. The important thing in this scheme of interpretation is not the letter itself but rather the sound which the letter makes in a given name." The Vowels "We will deal first with the various vowel sounds that are found in the English language, in the traditional order. It is the vowel sound that is important and not the letter per se." "A: as in father or Walter, also ought, lot, etc. This sound is that of The Creative Forces. It is the sound of Creation pure and simple. Those who have this sound in their first names will normally have a strong drive to create whether this be in artistic terms or otherwise. Man can create in many fields: inventions, financial empires, beauty, love. All are areas where creativity can be employed. This sound is normally a gift to an individual in order to allow him to be more creative than he might otherwise have been. It is up to him to use the gift for a positive purpose." "This sound also includes the 'O' sound in names like Robert, Bob, Colleen, Holly, etc. This is the sound that was intended for the letter A in the grand scheme of things. The other A sounds are aberrations that assume a somewhat modified meaning. When A is sounded as in father, the key idea is that of the movement of God's Creative Power into, through, and out of the individual. The influence has 2 opposed aspects however." "On the positive side it encourages the outflow of The Divine Creative Impulse, impelling the individual to use his energies in the evolution of new talents, things, and ideas. In particular, the sound A, as in father, seeks to bring forth new aspects of the individual himself, that is, traits which have never been manifested in previous lives on The Earth Plane." "On the negative side, however, this sound emphasizes the inflow of material substance into the individual, principally in the form of food, drink, and addictive or narcotic substances. When the individual has succumbed, in many lives, to the attractions of the senses and physical pleasure for its own sake, the inflow aspect of the sound A (as in father) will exaggerate the importance of consuming pleasureful substances, and this can lead to harmful habits, physical dependencies, and mental addictions." "The main picture here is that of the individual in his role as a transformer of The Creator's Power. The Divine Energy enters The Soul (Higher Self), is transmitted to the manifested personality, and then finds its expression in creation at the level of The Earth Plane. This is the ideal positive aspect of the sound." "A: as in Matthew, Bradley, Daphne, etc. This sound represents a variant of the A of father, one that tends to bring to the fore the traits of eagerness and enthusiasm. The same aspect of flow-through creativity is present, but in addition there is added to the personality a positive coloring of optimism and keenness. Sometimes The Guides seek to used this label for a soul who has become too blase' or pessimistic in past lives, too soured or negative about life and all the wonderful potential of The Material Plane." "The challenge of the sound lies in its tendency to suppress caution and carefulness, to urge one to rush in where Angels fear to tread. As with all things, a balanced attitude is the most useful one in the long run. The right application of the sound under consideration is as an antidote to excessive caution, an uplift for the sour pessimist, and an elixir to scatter old habits of fear, fussiness, and humbug." "A: as in Amos, Kate, David, etc. This sound itself is a grating one to the ears due to the number of higher harmonics present, and, indeed, the quality of abrasiveness and prickliness is often found in most of those who are labelled with this sound. The purpose of such labeling would be to set up an obstacle to smooth relations with others which the individual would have to work at to overcome. With effort, of course, this can be accomplished, but it requires considerable self-knowledge and the ability to see oneself as others do." "This sound also partakes of the basic creativity pattern that We described with respect to the A sound in father. However, it adds assertiveness to the personality and sometimes an abruptness that can offend others. On the positive side, this trait can provide protection and strength to the soul who in past lives allowed others to dominate it. The negative aspect is, of course, the risk that self-assertion will turn to abrasiveness and a tendency to rub others the wrong way. Thus, the challenge here is to learn to be assertive and independent without the grating manner that estranges the affection of others." "E: as in Betty, Edward, Ted, Fred, etc. This sound is the closest to the ideal sound for E that appears in the English language. This vowel sound is that of fruition, of the bringing of anything to perfection or completion as well as the principle of the nurturing and protection of new life. As such, it is, to some extent, the vowel equivalent of the consonants M and N, since fruition is one of the key ideas associated with nurturing and domesticity." "Those tagged with this sound find in their basic personality patterns a strong urge not only to nurture and care for others, especially children, but also to bring forth and encourage new traits within their own being. The challenge of this sound, when prominent in the name of an individual, is to avoid manifesting reclusive and retiring tendencies to an excessive degree. The purpose of this labelling is usually to add a characteristic which is incomplete at the level of The Higher Self or which will be required in the present experience due to the plan for the life." "I: as in ski, seen, clean, etc. This sound occurs more in names spelled with E, EA, or EE (Steve, Jean). This sound is that related to the going forth into the world, the breaking of new ground, the blazing of new trails. It is a sound produced by a certain tenseness in the back of the mouth, and this represents the energy and force conveyed by the sound itself. Those who have the sound in their first name are endowed with more in the way of energy and power than would otherwise be the case. They have, in most instances, been given this quality as an overlay gift in order to allow them to accomplish more in the life than they might have been able to do without it. Sometimes it is given to provide fortitude and courage against the onslaught of a life-pattern which is more difficult and more karmically involved than the average." "In this tonality is found the essential Martian Energy that blazes new trails, breaks new ground, leads others to a better, broader vision, and challenges outworn ways of doing things. As with all manifestations of this kind of assertive energy, the primary test is to avoid interpersonal rivalries and resentments that can cloud the private life of an individual." "Small children are often called by name variations that end in this EE sound (Tommy, Jimmy) which adds a bolt of extra energy to the child. If a youngster seems apathetic or habitually tired and does not already have this sound in his name, it could help his general energy level to start using a nick-name that includes the EE tonality." "I: as in Timothy. This sound conveys the feeling of brotherhood and friendship. One who has this tonality in his name will be more inclined toward generosity and goodwill than would have been the case without the sound being present. He will also be generally supportive and encouraging toward others." "O: as in Toby, Otis, and Homer. Here is found the expansive Jupiterian Energy of increase, growth, and maturing. This sound is that of expansion, broadening, developing, growing, and maturing. The idea of largeness is also present. Those to whom this sound has been given have received a special gift, for it brings into the life-pattern more in the way of success, achievement, and what is seen as 'luck' than would otherwise be the case. In almost all such instances, The Guides have arranged the sound-label in order to give to the individual a life-pattern which he has deserved due to actions in previous lives by which benefits came to other people." "The positive side of this sound often includes a tendency for the life-pattern to be marked by good fortune, bounty, and protection. Conversely, the challenge here is to avoid the self-satisfied smugness of success by cultivating an appreciative attitude toward The Source of all benefit, The Godhead." "U: as in Susan, June, Lulu. This sound contains the opposite of the O, namely the ideas of contraction, limitation, decrease, termination, and coldness. It is interesting that, in order to pronounce this sound, the mouth itself must be closed down to a small orifice. When a person is labelled with the U, the principle of limitation becomes strongly imprinted on his subconscious to such an extent that the individual himself will often tend to act in a way that will bring restriction into his life." "When this sound is the one intended by The Guides, there is usually a substantial amount of karma still to be dealt with by the individual. Normally, the restrictive influence is felt most strongly in the personal emotional life, and when this kind of limitation is observed in the private life of one who is U-labelled, it is a fair conclusion that the sound was intended. From a cosmic point of view, the meeting of karma through restriction and limitation is the positive side of the sound. The challenge, of course, is to avoid bitterness, resentment, and envy by realizing that all things serve a purpose and that the gift of loneliness is inner strength." "Those who are labelled with this sound will generally find that there is some area in their lives where they feel incomplete, frustrated, cheated, or whatever. This may be in the career, in love, or any other of the main departments in which the life is experienced. When an individual is labelled in this way, it almost always is in order to signal to his subconscious the idea that the limitations he feels are there for a purpose (karmic) and also in order to foster the very kinds of limiting experiences which it denotes." "U: as in the French word purete' and the German u found in Munchen. These two sounds are not exactly the same, nonetheless, the character trait associated with the sound is uniform. It is that of coldness in the emotions. The great task before those who are so labelled is to try to open up their emotional love-nature to others, for it is here that they themselves suffer the most." "U: as in the word 'us'. The primary effect of this sound is to impart a quantum of idealism to the basic nature. The challenge here is to avoid a tendency to become picky or critical because people or circumstances do not measure up to the inner ideals." "There is a close correspondence between the vowel meanings given above and the 5 'naked eye' planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. These are given here in the correct order away from The Sun." "Mercury rules the mind and the intellect. Its letter A (father) relates to creativity, which is essentially a mental act as seen from The Higher Planes." "Venus is the planet of beauty, affection, and love. It is by far the most fruitful of these 5 planets and thus fits well with the sound E (let)." "Mars is the planet of energy, power, and drive, thus tying in with I (ski)." "Jupiter is the significator of expansion, increase, benefits, and largeness, thus fitting well the keywords for O (stove)." "Finally, Saturn is the astrological symbol for that which appears to limit, restrict, deny, or delay. It is thus well correlated with the sound of U (lute)." The Consonants "Having covered the vowel sounds, it is now appropriate to deal with the consonants in alphabetical order." "B: Essentially, this letter connotes the enjoyment of physical pleasure for its own sake. In some of the cases in which The Guides intend the sound to be present, the purpose is to encourage the individual to loosen up and enjoy himself to a greater extent than he has in recent experiences. Many souls have lived ascetic lives of self-denial, refusing to enjoy the simple pleasures of earth existence (and often requiring others in their families to do likewise). These traits, if they become ingrained, can strangle the natural optimism and enthusiasm of the soul and, in time, become a stumbling block to advancement." "However, in a majority of the intended cases, the purpose is to alert the subconscious to the fact that the soul has allowed physical pleasure to govern its earth experiences too strongly, resulting in lost ground from a spiritual perspective. The hope is, of course, that by encouraging an even greater and more reckless plunge into sense-pleasure, the individual will come at last to realize that physical excesses lead only downward and can never uplift the soul." "There are, as We have intimated, many instances where the letter B is not of particular significance for the person who has been labelled with it. In such cases, the individual should simply be aware of the major challenge of the sound, namely to enjoy life without becoming entrapped in any of the pleasures which physical existence makes available." "C: There are two ways of pronouncing this letter. It becomes the hard K sound when followed by A, O, or U, and it sounds like S when followed by E or I. Refer to the material for K or S depending upon the sound assumed by C." "D: The sound D is a very heavy, dull sound with undertones of suppression and strain. It results from the sudden release of air in the throat due to a movement of the tongue away from the roof of the mouth. In the English language, D occurs in a wide variety of words, but it tends to crop up regularly in words with a heavy or negative meaning: death, dearth, dull, disaster, die, etc. The sound of the letter D, when tied to a person through his name, does not act to bring these particular concepts into play in his life, however it does exert an influence which tends to shape the life-pattern such that a certain aloneness will be noticed." "The idea of being alone or of having to spend time by oneself is present in the life. This can arise even where a person is apparently surrounded by family or friends on a continuing basis. In such a case, the feeling of isolation would be within the person and may result from an emotional suppression or the like. Souls who must, for karmic reasons, go through a period of loneliness and separation from others are labelled, so to speak, with the sound D. Of course, not everyone who has the D in his first name will recognize this effect in his life, but comparison with the lives of others will usually show how the effect has manifested." "Whenever this letter is enclosed by 2 vowels, as in Ada or Ida, its effect is increased. Some intensification of the effect is also present when the D is preceded only by a vowel, as in Edward." "Under the D label are found those who, even when surrounded by family or friends, still feel isolated and alone. Here too are found the ones that are required, for karmic purposes, to be literally by themselves -- often without a spouse or partner for at least a portion of the adult life. Where the D was not meant to be a part of the labeling, the primary effect operates subconsciously to cause the individual to assume attitudes and undertake actions that, by themselves, produce the isolation for which the letter primarily stands." "The avoidance of this letter represents an opportunity for parents to shelter a newborn from at least some of the self-generated experiences of loneliness and isolation that it would likely have produced for itself if the letter D appeared in the first name. Remember, however, that all letter sounds have a positive side. As with the U, the letter D often allows an individual to set aside a greater karmic burden than would otherwise be the case." "Even if the D is avoided in the given or christian name, a child will sometimes acquire a nickname that reintroduces it. If that occurs, it is highly likely that the child's Guides are behind it and that They feel the child will be advanced spiritually if the D sound is allowed to remain." "F: The sound of F in any name generally indicates that the early home experience of the individual will be an arena in which a number of karmic patterns are met. Often there is a restrictive atmosphere in the home or a lack of support or affection. We emphasize that this is not a letter that can be used to manipulate life-events. The karmic patterns must be dealt with regardless of whether The Guides can manage to tag the individual with the F sound if that is what They wish to do. Thus, parents cannot protect the child from adverse home conditions merely by avoiding names with the sound F in them. The only way to accomplish this is to ensure that your own actions and attitudes are conducive to a warm and happy home experience for your child." "This sound generally denotes the likelihood that the home of the individual will be the primary arena in which his negative karma will have to be met. The home experience for an individual who is F-labelled will tend to be one which he views with regret, sorrow, or frustration. The purpose for labeling an individual with the sound F is to promte a situation in which karma will be met. It may also be a way in which to develope an appreciation of the concept of the home which may have been missing or neglected in some way in previous incarnations." "G: This letter has 2 pronunciations in English. When followed by A, O, or U it has a hard sound (gall, gopher, gun). When followed by E or I it has the softer sound of J (gelatinous, gin). Some GI words have a hard sound however (e.g. gift). Here We will deal only with the hard sound. The soft sound is described under J." "The hard G sound (gun) tends to lend a pugnacious streak to the personality, an inclination to rush into battle with minimal provocation. In some cases, where the individual has been something of a cowardly custard in previous lives, this sound is needed in order to overlay the traits of gumption and forcefulness. Many souls have suffered such pain in recent experiences that they shy away from any physical confrontation with others. However, this fear is a stumbling block to the soul, principally because it leads to a lack of trust in God's Providence. Hence, for certain individuals the sound of the G can be a great gift." "For others, however, who already have enough pluck to look after themselves in a fight, the hard G sound will merely accentuate the violent tendency. Here is where the parents must exercise what wisdom they can, for to G-label a soul that comes in spoiling for a fight (as many do) will simply present an even harder challenge for that entity in incarnation, i.e. how to deal with others in a non-violent manner." "One method of approaching this problem is to consult the astrological chart of the newborn in combination with the inherited, genetic tendencies. Astrologically, if the infant has a powerful Mars (conjunct, square, or opposite The Sun, or in Aries or Scorpio or Capricorn, or in the 1st or 10th Houses), it would be best to avoid the hard G sound in the name. Likewise, if the direct genetic line contains more than one dedicated scrapper, then again the hard G sound should be avoided. However, if the astrological chart has a very weak Mars or the child comes from a long line of Milquetoasts, then the hard G can improve the spunkiness in a desirable manner." "H: This sound tends to lend a certain control over emotionalism in general. It lends a note of coldness and undemonstrativeness to the nature. There is often a tendency to hold back affection and to be unfeeling towards others. The life-pattern is usually marked, in some way, by early sorrow which has accentuated this inner tendency to withhold any show of affection. If the person does not reverse the process and acquire some degree of warmth and affection toward his fellow man, then the life-pattern will end in loneliness and despair." "This can be a boon to those souls who habitually give in to emotional excesses. However, for one who already is closed and undemonstrative, being tagged with the H sound can produce a marked coldness of the affectional nature and a disinclination to undertake any emotional interchange with others. Again in this case, the parents must exercise judgement. If the genetic line is marked by over-control of the emotions, then the H should probably be avoided. However, if the newborn has direct ancestors who are or were given to emotional excesses, flying off the handle, rash infatuations, or impetuous behavior, then the H-label might well bestow a needed measure of control and balance." "J: as in John or Justin (also the soft G as in Gerrard). The English language pronunciation of this letter tends to produce a critical and judgemental pattern at the mental level. Interestingly, these traits often are found in the Virgo personality, and just as in the typical Virgo, the J sound also overlays an idealistic streak. Essentially however, the J sound is a stimulus for the mind. That is its major positive effect. The challenge is, of course, to avoid the excessive pickiness and fault-finding that so often marks those labelled with this sound." "We would suggest that children who already have a marked dose of Virgo in the natal chart (especially if The Sun, Saturn, or Mercury are in that sign) should be given a name free of the J sound. They will likely turn out to be critical enough without the added challenge of dealing with the J effect. On the other hand, a child whose chart shows a weak Mercury (mental abilities) could benefit from being J-labelled." "This letter is comparable, in many ways, to the astrological failings of the Virgo, namely a tendency to judge others and to be overly critical. There is also the high idealism that is found in the typical Virgo personality, but this too tends to be stretched too far and be unrealistic. What both the Virgo and the J-labelled individual must learn is that all who have come to The Earth are flawed and imperfect, and so are they. One should not look for the perfect individual to love, for such does not exist. Rather, one should love others for their failings -- not in spite of but because of. It is these flaws which give to each human soul its unique-ness. And if God can find these foibles lovable, surely man can do the same." "K: as in Kathy, also the hard C as in Colleen and the CH of Christine. The gift of this sound is summed up in the word multiplicity. It overlays a broad spectrum of interest in the world and a certain degree of versatility (though not to the same extent as the letter T). There is a discernable liveliness present, a kind of bounce that uplifts others. On the challenge side, however, there is a tendency to be a bit prickly with others, or at least others tend to perceive the prickliness. Also, it is difficult for K-labelled individuals to put themselves in the place of others and to foresee the likely effects of their own actions on those around them." "On the negative side, there is the typical Gemini tendency to be somewhat prickly with others and often critical. The Gemini loves to say things merely as an experiment to see how someone else will react. They love to stir people up, and often they do not think ahead of time about how that person might be reacting to the words or how they might feel as a result. This inability to put oneself in the other person's place is also present, to some degree, in the individuals who are K-labelled." "L: This sound denotes the learner, one who will feel impelled throughout life to continue to acquire new knowledge and understanding. Often, this will mark the person who is forever taking one course after another or reading extensively in one subject after another." "Where possible, The Guides attempt to label, with an L, those souls who have come to The Earth Plane with a definite plan to make substantial progress in spiritual terms and who know that, for them, this can only be achieved by broadening the mental understanding at the same time. Parents who wish to add this impetus to their child may decide to include the L in the first name. Be aware, however, of the major challenge of the sound, namely a tendency to become so bogged down in details that one cannot see the forest for the trees." "The L sound denotes an early stage of anything, a child-like quality of innocense, simplicity, or naivete'. An individual who has this letter in his first name is being reminded, at the unconscious level, about the necessity of working and studying in order to learn the things which the soul needs to allow further progress in the spiritual sense. Often those who have the sound L in their first names will feel a constant compulsion to be learning, although, for most people, this drive will center on practical subjects. However, for a minority who are lucky enough to have encountered the realms of The Spirit, there is usually an instant recognition of these areas as those to which the attention should be directed." "M and N: These sounds lend a nurturing and protective quality to the personality and are often selected by The Guides when a soul has insufficiently developed that maternalistic trait at The Soul Level. The challenge of the sound is to avoid reclusive and close-binding tendencies. The general pattern is that of the Cancer personality in Astrology, and just like the Cancerian, one who is labelled with M or N must strive to avoid a tendency to take offense when no offense is intended." "These sounds signify home, hearth, domesticity, the nurturing instinct. They are analogous to The Moon and the sign Cancer in Astrology and to the number 2 in Numerology. Those whose first names contain these sounds will tend to show the home-loving and domestic tendencies to a greater extent than would be the case if their names were free of the sounds. Most of the time, The Guides arrange to label a person with the M or N when, at The Soul Level, the traits associated with these sounds are lacking. Thus the purpose is usually to instill into the lower self (ego/personality) a counterbalancing quantity of this tendency in hopes that the trait at the lower level will, to some extent, be absorbed by The Higher. In this manner, the lopsidedness of The Higher Self will be corrected." "P: This sound is used by The Guides to strengthen the sexual drive of an individual when there are reasons to expect that the sexuality will be suppresed or undeveloped. This can happen in the first few lives after a soul has changed the sexual identity in which it manifests. It can also happen when an individual has suffered much pain in association with sexual expression in past lives and has become frightened of the sexual experience in a general way." "When the letter P is applied to one who has a normal sexual drive, however, he or she will have to learn to master the augmented procreative urges. Otherwise, those urges will dictate behavior and attitudes toward others and, in extreme cases, can totally disrupt the life-pattern by impelling the individual to take actions that normally would have been avoided. For example, a love affair fired mainly by physical passion (that might not have occurred if the P had been absent) can cause the break-up of an esentially happy home." "Q: This letter is always followed by U in the English language, but the combination sounds like a K followed by a W. Thus, queen could be phonetically spelled kween. The traits added by this combination consist of those given above under K alone and those given below under W alone." "R: Here is the letter of pleasure, pure and simple. In this respect, the R is much like the B. However, the pleasure sought by one who has the R in the name tends to be more of a subtle nature than the proclivities of the person labelled with the B. Whereas the B pursues mainly the visceral gratifications of brewed alcohol, rich food, and momentary sex, the R hankers after more refined pleasures: the feel and texture of fine clothing, the subtly pleasureful distinctions between world-class wines, the excitement of owning a fast and powerful car." "As with the B, The Guides use this sound to add an appreciation of the pleasing aspects of life to one who has turned his back on them in previous lives. The challenge of this sound, however, is that it tends to turn the attention away from spiritual aspects of life by drawing the focus of consciousness down toward the pleasureful experiences which earth incarnation offers." "This letter in any person's name will lend a pleasure-seeking aspect to the personality which may not be there at The Higher Level. Even the pronunciation of the sound is, in many senses, a pleasurable experience. In other aspects, this letter speaks of one who is at an early stage in the developement of spiritual instincts. The pleasure motif in the life-pattern tends to become a dominant theme, and the individual usually cares little for thoughts of higher things, spirituality, and the like." "S: has two modes of pronunciation. It can be sibilant (hissing like steam escaping) as in the names Samuel and Simeon. Conversely, it can be a sounded S as in Moses. The latter is really the same as the Z, which is dealt with below. Only the sound of the sibilant S will be explained here." "The hissing S sound is the magnfier, the augmenter. Its basic function is to increase and amplify the meaning of the letter sounds which immediately precede or follow it. Thus, the name Susan will show an increased U-effect (limitation) due to the fact that it is preceded by the S. Similarly, the name Sophia will augment the apparent protective aspect of the O sound. As another example, the name Aster will amplify both the bumptious optimism of the A sound and the versatility of the T. The letters in a name that are not immediately before or after the S will be relatively unaffected by the S." "It should be remembered that these effects are merely laid over the traits which are inborn. For this reason, there may be found many individuals who do not appear to manifest the tendencies which We have attached to the letters. Let Us explain with an example. If one finds a person having the name Steve or Stella, one might expect to find a heightened versatility. If one does not note this trait, then it is certain that The Soul projected so little of it into the personality that the name-label with the ST sound had to be applied in order to bring the personality up to average, so to speak. In other words, in such a case the individual might have been hopelessly incompetent without the advantage of the ST in the name." "T: As briefly mentioned in the preceding entry, the T sound lends a broad versatility to the personality, an ability to do many things well. The sound of T, the explosive release of air from behind the tongue when held against the upper palate, is a great energizer when found in the first name of any individual. When this sound is given to one who has already developed many capabilities in previous lives, the result will be a surprising cleverness, an aptitude for many things, and a talent that extends into numerous fields. Sometimes, when The Guides have selected a soul to perform a number of services for Them during incarnation, the T sound is used to ensure that the abilities will be a match for the tasks that are assigned." "However, it is more usual for this sound to be employed in order to bring a laggard up to average in terms of abilities. For this reason, many of those who are T-labelled will not be seen to be particularly talented or diversified in abilities. As parents, it is relatively safe to select a T-name for any child, since this will only increase the individual's ability to get on in the world. The challenge is simply that the interests tend to be so diversified and broad-ranging that there is a reluctance to devote the degree of attention to any one field that is necessary in order to excel in it." "V: Here is the sound of the victor, the one who overcomes any opposition. All souls who are V-labelled tend, to a greater or lesser extent, to have the attitude that life can be taken by the throat and forced into a desired pattern. They are the people with the firm, confident handshake (especially the women), those who will look you straight in the eye with the steady gaze of self-confidence, never wavering. These individuals succeed by sheer willpower. Even when their innate talents do not exceed those of their rivals, they will win by the force of their determination." "The challenge of the V, of course, is to avoid antagonizing others by the power of one's personality and to realize, at last, that human values and the warmth of real love outweigh by far the heady but passing euphoria of wordly success." "Those who have this letter in their first names are endowed with a drive to order their world as they want it, to take the initiative in terms of their own life-pattern. This does not necessarily refer to job or career, since many housewives who do not work outside the home have the letter V as well. In such cases, the urge to take command of the pattern of the life and not be at the mercy of events or whims of chance will express itself in terms of an ordering of the home or domestic environment." "W: This sound tends to confer on the person who is labelled with it a tendency to find ritual and ceremony attractive. In many instances, this will result in the individual being drawn toward conventional religion, especially the more ceremonial faiths like Roman Catholicism. As youngsters they will enjoy being altarboys or choirboys because of the outfits that they wear for these functions." "In some cases, the letter predisposes the individual to non-religious arenas where ceremony plays a big part. Politics is an example. This sound is used by The Guides when it is desired to draw into a religious experience one who has shied away from the devotional kind of life in many incarnations. The risk is, of course, that the individual will become immersed in the pomp and circumstance of the religion and lose sight of the spiritual truth behind it." "This letter sound in an individual's name brings a heightening of the natural religious instinct. If this is not strongly present at the level of The Higher Self, it may have been decided to apply the W sound as a label in order to beef up the trait that is lacking. In those who are innately religious, the application of the W provides a very strong impulse in the conventional religious direction." "X: This letter, when it appears in English names, has the sound of K combined with S as in Rex or Alexander. Hence the proper interpretation is that of an enhanced or magnified K. (See the appropriate section above.)" "Y: The letter Y is really a version of the letter I. The meaning is therefore the same as that of the I." "Z: The sound of the Z (a sounded or buzzing S) has the effect of making an individual gregarious, i.e. the ability to mingle easily with crowds. Mostly, The Guides use this sound when They wish to counteract an isolationist trait in the soul. For example, one who has lived many lives as a recluse, a habitual hermit, could benefit from the Z label. The challenge is simply to retain a selectivity in the matter of choosing friends. He who has too many has none." "When the Z is present, it lends to the personality a certain gregariousness, a herding instinct which makes him prefer groups to being alone. The social instincts are quite strong, since this person sees the ability to socialize as essential to his goal: that of avoiding being alone with himself. Unfortunately, such persons often have a flaw in the self-image which is promoting this desire to be in a crowd. Deep down, they do not feel that they are lovable, and, therefore, they seek the company of others so that they do not have to face the thought of their unworthiness. This trait is a drawback of a serious nature. The man who cannot be alone with himself and happy in that state can never be totally happy with another person or persons. The ability to love the self is a prerequisite to loving another. To fail at the former means never knowing the latter." Non-English Letter Sounds "There are a couple letter sounds which do not occur in English but which We wish to deal with for the sake of completeness." "J: as in the French 'je'. This sound promotes an over-emphasis on the mental gifts. It is interesting that the very lesson which is shared by almost all who are born into the French Culture is precisely that of learning that mental abilities are not everything and that rationality alone can scale only part-way up the mountain of spiritual achievement." "X: as in the Spanish 'Mexico' and CH as in the Hebrew 'chaim' or the German 'nach'. This sound is that of over-emotionalism. We need say little more about this, for it will suffice for the reader to compare the emotional natures of the groups mentioned in order to grasp quite well what this sound does to one in whose name it is found." The Dipthongs "Finally, We wish to deal with the dipthongs, the sounds represented by two consonants placed together." "TH: This dipthong appears as such only in English, although the sound itself is present in Spanish, in the usual pronunciation of 'c' and 'z'. We are here referring to the unvoiced sound as in Thaddeus. This sound lends to the individual a certain activity of the mind, a liking for mental exercise. Its purpose is just that, to prompt a using of the mental faculties to a degree that was not attained in previous lives. This is only a general observation and would not be strictly true for all who have this label in their names." "TH: This dipthong when pronounced in the voiced manner, as in 'that', promotes physical activity. There is a liking for the sporting life and a pleasure in bodily motion for its own sake. The sound also lends to the individual a degree of concreteness and solidity. This may come out in the physical tendency to gain weight after age 35." "CH: This dipthong, pronounced as in Charles, denotes a strong sex drive and usually an over-emphasis on sex for its own sake. This sound acts in the manner of heightening of the sexuality." "SH: This sound, pronounced as in Sharon, is one which brings into the life-pattern more than the usual share of bounty, expansion, increase, and what is seen as 'luck'. It is essentially the Jupiterian sound among consonants. This sound acts like the sound O in Mona, namely an indication of a protected life." Final Comments "We must point out that this system is far from infallible for a number of reasons which We have already dealt with. In addition, there are often several consonants and vowels in any given name, and sometimes the indications derived from one will appear to contradict those of another. Nonetheless, the student of this subject will often find, upon persevering, that the traits and/or the life-pattern tend to reflect all of the indicators to a reasonable degree despite any apparent conflict. And generally, the letters sounding first will be more prominent in effect than letters coming later." "We should emphasize that the selecting of a name for the child is not the ponderous responsibility that might have been suggested. Do not worry about missing the perfect name for your child. The overlay effect contributed by a name is fairly marginal, and, in any event, the primary responsibility lies with the child's Guides not with you. Simply do your best and all will be well." "During the weeks preceding the expected birth date, try to open up to any messages which your Guides may give you about the child's likely traits and the names or sounds which They prefer. These may come in dreams, in meditation or prayer, or simply in the chance encounter with one particular name that may attract your attention." "If you pick up any names or letter sounds, proceed to analyze them using this information, trying to understand or receive from your Guides the reasons why They may wish to have your child tagged with those particular sounds. If you do not pick up any names or sounds, then go about it in the usual manner employed by parents when selecting a name." "Find one you feel is right for your child and, again, study the meaning of the sounds it contains. Decide whether the overlays of the various letters would be of benefit. Keep in mind the possible factors which the child might have genetically inherited, and consider whether the first name should contain counteracting tendencies. If you have access to the child's birth chart and can understand the filters which are applied by the planetary positions, decide whether there are any prominent tendencies for which an antidote would be provided in the child's name." "May the peace and blessing of all The Higher Beings Who HILARION
