AQUARIAN AGE CHILD RAISING

Aquarian Child of The New Age

In these teachings, Hilarion discusses the most enlightened way to be bringing up children on this planet, the way that is seen from the immense perspective of The Ascended Masters of Wisdom for Planet Earth, the way in which newly-birthed souls will be nurtured and taught and raised in The New Golden Age that is soon to dawn on Earth. Hilarion has released this information to promote more conscious parenting in order to prevent the innocents under their care from ever again being burdened and ensnared by countless sub-conscious programs that inevitably have led to suffering and sorrow and the inability to rise up out of the mundane preoccupations into the heady heights of the spiritual. These recommendations lay the groundwork and are not to be considered comprehensive but rather should be seen as the first phase of the teachings about child-raising for the more evolved souls to be incarnating in The Aquarian Age of Love and Light.

Prologue:

"Parents, with what they presume to be the wisdom of maturity, imagine that it is their task to teach children to be adults. But children all know what it is like to be grown up (from other lives), and for the space of a few years they have cast off the cares of age to become what God intended all of Humanity to be and to remain: innocent and trusting and at play."

"It is not an error, of course, for parents to believe they are responsible for the developement of their offspring. The error creeps in when it is assumed that the child must do all of the learning. For there is much that youth can teach to age: purity, joy, laughter, emotional honesty, the excitement of discovery, an enjoyment of simple beauty. All of these and more are demonstrated again and again in any schoolyard or park where the little ones are found."

"This material is about teaching and about learning. To prompt the reader to remember this dual role toward his children, We have suggested in the text certain ways of thinking and some simple exercises which, if followed, will bring clearly into focus what We see as the best attitude to have in relation to one's children."

"We offer one piece of advice before beginning. Try to keep clearly in mind that your children are to you what you are to God. A youngster who is devastated by the accidental breakage of a favorite toy may, by his uncontrolled wailing, cause his parents to smile behind their hands. They know that the toy can be replaced or that the child will soon find his attention drawn elsewhere. Even so do your Guides smile down with sympathetic amusement when to you your life appears to be in shambles."

"They see further than you, and They perceive the good that comes of all seemingly negative experiences. And yet They rush to comfort you to the extent They can, for in so doing They encourage new qualities within Themselves, just as your own efforts to comfort your child bring forth the gentle colors of sympathy in your aura, without which you can never pass beyond the lower levels of The Astral World."

Overview of Reality:

"For the sake of those not familiar with our other writings, it is appropriate here to sketch the main concepts which must be grasped in order to allow a full understanding of the principles We wish to bring forth in this material. Though some readers will balk at accepting certain of these ideas, there is now at work an irreversible process which will firmly implant them -- and the spiritual viewpoint they represent -- among all of Mankind. By accepting the concepts at this early stage, the reader will have prepared himself far more effectively than any other way for The Great Changes which are set to descend upon The Earth in the near future."

"The Universe of Creation is not merely that which physical eyes can see. It extends vastly beyond the perceptions and the present imagination of Mankind, encompassing limitless, interpenetrating planes of reality in which an incredible assortment of life-forms exist to act as vehicles for spiritual beings. And here we come upon the first essential point to understand. It is that all of Creation, the visible as well as the invisible, exists for one primary purpose, namely to provide vehicles through which spiritual beings can experience their own essential qualities and thus find out about themselves."

"Hence, We must distinguish between 2 levels: The Spiritual Essence and the outer form (regardless of the vibrational level or plane of being of that form). Some philosophers would call Us 'Dualists', but We place no importance on labels of this kind. We see what is, and our task here is to make what We see as clear as We can within the limits of an earth-bound language."

"The next important point to be grasped is the nature of The Earth Garden in which you find yourself. Your Planet is merely a school to which you return many times to learn the lessons that human incarnation is intended to teach. These lessons are not intellectual ones alone, although some sharpening of the mental faculties is expected of any soul progressing through the earth school. Rather, they are life-lessons, exercises in the treatment of one's brothers and oneself, opportunities to learn those attitudes of mind and heart which will allow one to progress beyond the relatively primitive learning level which this Planet represents."

"And this brings Us, sadly, to the next important point: that this little Earth is, at present, a dark and spiritually impoverished wilderness where misguided souls prey upon each other like beasts, and the moans of those who suffer rise like a blasphemy against the face of heaven. The Earth Being Herself is suffering greatly at the present time, having volunteered to harbor the fledgeling Race of Humanity through its early, violent phases of learning. But that shining Entity will not be allowed to suffer indefinitely. She has been promised relief from the burden of pain She now carries."

"If The Human Race cannot throw off the blindness which besets It; if the wars, destruction, and pollution do not cease, then the present phase of civilization will be brought to an end in the greatest catastrophe ever to be imposed upon Mankind. And a selection will be made from among The Race Itself. Those who have raised their vibrations high enough will partake of the new Spiritual Dispensation to be inaugurated after the collapse, while those who remain steeped in selfishness, greed, or cruelty will be removed to a different path -- separated perhaps forever from their more enlightened brothers."

"We mentioned earlier that The Earth is like a school to which souls return many times, and this is another of the primary concepts to be understood. Without a grasp of the reincarnational process it is virtually impossible to make any sense of all the various conditions which arise on The Earth. Suffering seems pointless until one realizes that the sufferer is merely 'meeting himself', as Edgar Cayce used to say. He is paying off a debt to himself which arose in some earlier phase of experience on Earth, when another being suffered similarly at his hands."

"Even illnesses caused by abuse of the body in the present life are used to allow a reduction in the karmic burden which the soul carries. Of course, such diseases are also meant to teach one the proper way to treat the body. Correct diet, exercise, and meditation are now and have always been the keys to perfect health and longevity."

"This leads Us to the next major idea, namely that of dietary purification. For too long Mankind has fed Itself with cadavers. You were never intended to make of your stomach a graveyard for your animal brothers. Remember that living food makes the body live better; dead food makes the body die better. But the importance of this point goes far beyond the matter of dietary principles. For until there is an end to the wanton slaughter of the animals, Man will never be rid of the incessant wars and killing which characterize the present phase of life on this planet."

"This leads to the next major point, for what has happened is that the reality which surrounds Humanity has literally taken up and reflected back the very attitudes with which It regards The Animal Kingdom."

"The great Law of Reflection extends its sway throughout all of the created worlds. Your thoughts and attitudes literally create your reality, for it is the nature of The Universe to act as a mirror in which you can perceive your own true essence. If Humanity finds Itself in the midst of wars and killing, it is because such things are nurtured in the human heart. What greater evidence of this than the callous disregard with which the animals are daily put to death?"

"A final idea which We wish to mention in this preliminary survey of the spiritual terrain pertains to symbolism and the importance of the daily dialogue which each incarnated individual could have with his own Guides were he only aware that They exist and can interact with him! Reality speaks to each of you in a hundred-thousand ways, but the current world-view of Mankind has blotted out all but a few of these. The most important step to take, of course, is to believe that the seemingly random events of your life can have an underlying meaning and that some form of intelligence directs your path for your own good."

"Unfortunately, science has fostered a colossal egotism amongst The Human Race, the result of which is the supposition that Man is alone in The Universe, without peer, making his way unaided across the deserts of reality. Seen from our perspective, this conceit is quite amusing -- rather as the inflated imaginings of your small child might appear to you as an adult. And here We come again upon the comparison which We mentioned in the prologue. Your child is to you as you are to God. Try to keep this analogy in the forefront of your mind as you read this, for it was intended to give you some insight into the attitude with which your Guides and Higher Teachers regard you."

"We propose now to discuss the intriguing challenge of shepherding children to adulthood without damaging them physically, emotionally, or mentally. We assure the reader that this can be done, even though most adults today have been grievously wounded by their own parents in one or more of these departments."

Birth and The First Days:

"Many people imagine that a newborn infant is nothing more than a confused mass of jangled sensations and appetites without any focused consciousness, devoid of the ability to recognize people or surroundings. If only each of you could remember! Those first few days are a time of immense clarity with regard to the truth of life, the reason for entering this time, and the roles which the parents are expected to play in the developement of the new conscious entity."

"Indeed, what happens is the reverse of what is generally assumed. The Earth Plane gradually begins to cloud over the early perceptions of truth, and within a week the newborn has lost much of the clarity that was there in the beginning. Other changes also take place in the first days in addition to the clouding of the infant memory of The Summerland (Upper Five Levels of The Astral Planes of Earth) from which it has so recently descended."

"One of these realtes to the specific bonding which takes place with the mother and (if he is present) the father. Prior to birth, of course, there is a bond of sorts established at the physical level between the fetal body and that of the mother. This is a link which exists essentially at the physical or physiological level. Recall that the body itself has a kind of rudimentary intelligence which exists apart from the consciousness of The Soul Which will use that body as its vehicle of expression. We are thus speaking of a connection between the body-consciousness of the fetus and that of the mother, this link being established through the umbilical cord."

"Consider now what happens when the umbilical cord is severed after the birth process is completed. Suddenly, the body-consciousness finds itself cut off from the source of everything it previously required to continue its existence."

"At the primitive level of that consciousness (to be distinguished from the consciousness of the arriving Soul), panic of major proportion sets in. One thought becomes uppermost for the body-consciousness: to re-establish the connection, the link. This prime directive arising from the newborn's body is so overpoweringly strong that it impinges on the soul consciousness and becomes implanted there. This is the source of the strong 'instinct' to bond with the mother. It represents a facsimile of the intimate physical connection that previously existed between the fetal body and that of the mother."

"Here we come upon another fascinating area, one which has not been adequately explored by psychologists who think carefully about the influence on the psyche of the days and weeks surrounding birth. What role does the placenta play in the pantheon of concepts being imprinted on the infant consciousness? This temporary organ acts as an energy transformer for the fetus, supplying oxygen from the mother to the fetal blood circulation (which is separate from that of the mother), providing nutrients which the fetus requires for growth, and removing from the blood supply all waste products and toxins resulting from the fetal metabolism."

"The placenta is certainly perceived at a subliminal level by the body-consciousness of the fetus, particularly since the body must share the womb with that organ. It is viewed as an impersonal nurturing or providing principle, and when that perception becomes transferred to the soul-consciousness at a later stage in the developement of the child, it provides a kind of archetype for God or the all-embracing and all-providing Universe."

"The symbolism goes rather deeper than We have suggested so far and is amplified by peripheral facts. Consider, for example, the umbilical cord itself, which consists of 3 distinct tubes (2 arteries and 1 vein). Here is a first encounter with the truine nature of God, i.e. the concept that the all-provident Deity is Three in One (Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma -- The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- The First Three Aspects or Rays of The Godhead). Reflect on the importance of The Solar Plexus (Third Chakra) in the oriental system of chakras and on the energy-building technique of pressing the fourth finger of the right hand into the belly button (navel). This area of the body is ultimately tied to the general health and vitality level of the physical vehicle, and the attachment of the 3-fold umbilicus to the fetal belly lies at the root of this connection."

"Another change which overtakes the newborn consciousness relates to the area of sensation. Realize first that, in the womb most of the signals arriving through the senses are muted. Sounds are heard, but they are faint. Light is perceived, but it too is dimmed by the mother's stomach wall. The only primary sense is that of touch. The fetal body is covered with fine hair, and as the fetus turns in the womb, the amniotic fluid moving past the hairs causes a sensation to be felt in the skin. This feeling in the epidermal layer is the constant companion of the fetus, and it is around this sensation that the rudimentary intelligence of the fetal body sets up the notion of 'I', the ego or self. This concept at the level of the body-consciousness is the seed from which the personality will later 'grow' its own self-picture. As a newly born infant, of course, the packet of consciousness projected down from The Soul has little concept of ego or self. It simply accepts the more prominent urge from the body to re-establish the connection to the mother which no longer exists through the umbilical cord."

"At the moment of birth, the muted existence of the fetus is shattered by the crashing in of new sensations, many times stronger than anything the little body has yet experienced. The light in the eyes is much brighter; the sounds are much louder; prominent smells and tastes are experienced for the first time. Suddenly, instead of one, unified, skin-related feeling of self, the infant finds confused sensations coming in through 7 specific openings, all in the head. These are the 2 eyes, the 2 ears, the 2 nostrils, and the mouth. The full size 'skin ego' is replaced by 7 smaller focal points of sensory reception. It is as if the vessel of self has been shattered into 7 pieces."

"We have explained this process in order to cast light on one of the most enduring of the fairy tales which are told in The Western World: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In the version that is closest in analogy to the actual infant experience, Snow White finds herself running through the woods, frightened by seeing 3 drops of blood on the end of her mother's finger. The finger is, of course, the umbilical cord, and the 3 drops of blood represent the 3 tubes being cut. She encounters the 7 dwarfs, and in the original version these characters had names that reflected, in some manner, their connection to the 7 head openings described above -- Sleepy (eyes), Sneezy (nostrils), etc. Of course, some of the names have undergone changes over the centuries, but the basis of the story still remains."

"The final topic to be dealt with in this segment relates to the actual process by which The Soul becomes tied to the newborn body. There is much division among esotericists as to when the Soul-body connection is solidified, and We hope here to explain the matter in a way that will show that all versions have in them a kernal of truth. Firstly, it is the case for most pregnancies that the particular Soul to be incarnated in the forming fetus is not selected in a final way until some time during the gestation period. In a majority of instances, the selection is made before the third month, and almost all decisions of this kind have been made before the 'quickening' in the 5th or 6th month. Indeed, the quickening (usually signalled by deliberate body movement in the fetus) can only happen when an individual Soul has entered the new body. This is not to say that The Soul is 'tied' to the fetus at the quickening."

"Unless a premature birth is planned, this is almost never the case. What happens is that the chosen Soul passes in and out of the body during the months of the pregnancy, getting used to the feeling of the body, impressing its own vibrations on certain of the major organs, and providing much of the energy used by the fetus for growth. Whenever there is an increase of sensation in the fetus, however, it tends to draw The Soul Consciousness more intimately into the body."

"For example, if the mother were to have a fall or be physically abused in a way that put pressure on the fetus, this would immediately attract The Soul into the body and focus its attention there. In some cases, the mother can be frightened by something while she is carrying, and if there is a corresponding increase in the physical or sense stimuli of the fetus, this will in most instances cause the fetal intelligence to 'pick up' an echo of the same fright. For example, if the mother is attacked by a dog during the pregnancy, the child will be born with an instinctive fear of dogs which is unrelated to any actual experience it may have after birth."

"As the fetus grows bigger and bigger, feeling more and more cramped inside the womb, the physical sensations become gradually stronger, thus requiring The Soul to pay more and more attention to the developing body. In particular, if the fetus is aborted deliberately or otherwise, The Soul is certainly present in the body throughout this wrenching experience and undergoes what amounts to a death as the fetal body expires."

"In most instances of deliberate abortion, the likelihood that the pregnancy will be terminated is known at Higher Levels. In such cases, The Soul to be involved with the fetus is selected on the basis of karma. Usually The Soul is one who had been responsible for aborting a fetus in a previous incarnation. We should point out that being in an aborted fetus is not the only way to set aside this kind of karma. More often it is done by giving birth to a live infant. In other words, the debt incurred by terminating one fetus is paid by carrying another through to a normal birth."

"The question still remains, then, as to when The Soul is permanently tied to the newborn. This is a complex matter and difficult to explain within the terms of understanding presently on The Earth. What takes place, essentially, is a kind of double operation at The Soul and Aetheric Levels."

"The operation at The Soul Level has as its purpose to create a block within The Soul between the basic Soul Consciousness and the portion of That Consciousness which is to be allowed to connect permanently with the newborn body. Note that the part is not actually cut away as some people imagine. There is, in reality, no separation between the 2 parts of The Soul. However, there is a blockage inserted which gives the impression of 'distance' between the 2 portions, and one of the major tasks of the incarnating personality will be to overcome that blockage and realize its true Soul-Essence while on The Earth."

"The other operation is more akin to a true tying together of separate essences. The portion that was blocked off from The Soul (or Higher Self) is now attached to the newborn body at 2 primary locations: the head and the solar plexus (The Manipura Chakra). In actual fact, these 2 connecting points gradually proliferate until the body establishes Soul-bridges at all 7 of The Major Chakras. Indeed, there are many other minor chakras as well, and all of these eventually become connected to The Soul."

"The reason for the delayed attachment at all of these points is a natural one. Until the new body/personality is able to receive certain kinds of vibrations transmitted from The Soul (love, analytical ability, etc.), the particular bridge or link along which such currents will arrive remains dormant. For example, the infant cannot love in a true sense in the first period after birth. Indeed, it requires for most people a period of 7 years before the love-nature and the associated bridge become firmly established."

"We admit that there are exceptions to this rule, but careful observation of small children will convince the reader that most of the display of affection in a youngster under the age of 7 is motivated by its awareness of the importance of the grown-ups that surround it. The child understands that its show of love provides insurance that the older person will return that physical affection to the child, and the child knows, at deep levels, that he desperately requires that demonstration of love as well as the physical security it connotes."

"We expect that some parents will protest here that their child is filled with love, and it is true that there are some youngsters who feel a genuine love not motivated by security or self-preservation. But bear our words in mind as you observe other children, and you will find that most are incapable during the first 7 years of a true feeling of unselfish love and caring."

"But We have digressed from the main discussion. Our purpose here has been simply to sketch the nature of the operation undertaken to bind The Soul to the new body, and We hope that what has been explained will afford to the reader additional insights into the complex and fascinating subject of birth and the time period immediately surrounding that momentous event."

Choosing The Name:

"There are many small booklets available which provide various interpretations of the original meanings of root words from which common first or 'given' names are derived. However, there are no sources from which the seeker can learn the effect of key language sounds found in a person's name and how to take control of these sounds and thus of the influences which they tend to exert."

"Firstly, let Us explain that in the case of virtually every birth, a deliberate attempt is made by the soul's Guides to 'tag' the new personality with a name which will exert certain desired formative influences on the developing personality. The primary mechanism for accomplishing this is to influence the parents in the days and weeks prior to birth, so that they will 'feel' that a name is right for their child. In about 70% of cases, The Guides manage to have the parents select a name which contains at least one of the planned consonant or vowel sounds. About 50% of the time, the name selected by the parents is the precise one which The Guides prefer."

"In those instances where the name is not the ideal one from the guides' point of view, an attempt is made in the early years of the life to develope a nick-name containing more of the desired sounds than are in the actual given name. However, this succeeds in only a minority of cases. The result is that a great many people are subjected to influences arising from their own names which produce effects that are, to some extent, unbalancing for the life pattern. The nature of these influences will be discussed in detail below."

"Before doing so, however, let Us emphasize what must now be clear, namely that the parents of a newborn child can, through an appropriate name selection, exert a certain degree of influence on the incarnation about to be experienced. At the same time, do not worry that you, as parents, have somehow scuttled the life-pattern of your child because you may not have 'received' the guides' message clearly."

"In the first place, the effects exerted by the name sounds represent only a minor influence on the individual. For the most part, they function as a kind of filter or overlay upon the developing personality. Through effort, will, and visualization, any of these effects perceived as negative or undesirable can be reversed, controlled, or modulated in a desired direction. Indeed, it can be said with confidence that no such test or trial is without benefit for The Soul, since each effort at overcoming problematical traits (even those which are 'imposed' from without, as in the case of the name sounds) provides for the individual a proving-ground from which he or she can emerge strengthened by the demands of the struggle."

"We propose now to deal with all of these sounds in detail, including their positive and negative effects. When these gifts and challenges have been fully described, We will deal with the question that is probably uppermost in the mind of every parent reading this dissertation: how should one proceed in the selection of a name or names for a newborn child?"

"We will deal first with the various vowel sounds that are found in the English language, in the traditional order. The important thing in this scheme of interpretation is not the letter itself but rather the sound which the letter makes in a given name. In the English language, many letters have different sounds depending on the context in which they are found. For example, the sound 'a' as in father is different from that in the word case, which again is different from the sound in the word at. All the main variations in pronounced sound will be dealt with for each letter."

"A: As just mentioned, the sound of this letter varies through a spectrum from the broad, pleasing sound of the words pall, father, and balk to the very acute and grating sound of the words case, bait, and crane. Essentially, there are 3 gradations of the letter A, in terms of the sound it makes in English."

"A, as in father or Walter, also ought, lot, etc. This sound is that of The Creative Forces. It is the sound of Creation pure and simple. Those who have this sound in their first names will normally have a strong drive to create, whether this be in artistic terms or otherwise. Man can create in many fields: inventions, financial empires, beauty, love. All are areas where creativity can be employed. This sound is normally a gift to an individual in order to allow him to be more creative than he might otherwise have been. It is up to him to use the gift for a positive purpose."

"This sound also includes the 'O' sound in names like Robert, Bob, Colleen, Holly, etc. This is the sound that was intended for the letter A in the grand scheme of things. The other A sounds are aberrations that assume a somewhat modified meaning. When A is sounded as in father, the key idea is that of the movement of God's Creative Power into, through, and out of the individual. The influence has 2 opposed aspects however."

"On the positive side, it encourages the outflow of The Divine Creative Impulse, impelling the individual to use his energies in the evolution of new talents, things, and ideas. In particular, the sound A, as in father, seeks to bring forth new aspects of the individual himself, that is, traits which have never been manifested in previous lives on The Earth Plane."

"On the negative side, however, this sound emphasizes the inflow of material substance into the individual, principally in the form of food, drink, and addictive or narcotic substances. When the individual has succumbed, in many lives, to the attractions of the senses and physical pleasure for its own sake, the inflow aspect of the sound A (as in father) will exaggerate the importance of consuming pleasureful substances, and this can lead to harmful habits, physical dependencies, and mental addictions."

"The main picture here is that of the individual in his role as a transformer of The Creator's Power. The Divine Energy enters The Soul (Higher Self), is transmitted to the manifested personality, and then finds its expression in creation at the level of The Earth Plane. This is the ideal positive aspect of the sound."

"When a child is born into a genetic line flawed by a self-indulgent emphasis which appears to be passed down from generation to generation, the parents should be aware that tagging the newborn with the A (father) sound might require that entering soul (personality) to work particularly hard at overcoming the attractions of food, drink, and narcotic substances, a struggle that would not be so severe if the sound were not present. On the other hand, a test of this kind could be precisely what the child's Guides have in mind."

"A, as in Matthew, Bradley, Daphne, etc. In accordance with the present scheme of meaning, this sound represents a variant of the A of 'father', one that tends to bring to the fore the traits of eagerness and enthusiasm. The same aspect of flow-through creativity is present, but in addition there is added to the personality a positive coloring of optimism and keenness. Sometimes The Guides seek to use this label for a soul who has become too blase' or pessimistic in past lives, too soured or negative about life and all the wonderful potential of The Material Plane."

"It might be thought that anyone would benefit from being tagged with this cheery influence, but it is not so. The challenge of the sound lies in its tendency to suppress caution and carefulness, to urge one to 'rush in where angels fear to tread'. As with all things, a balanced attitude is the most useful one in the long run. The right application of the sound under consideration is as an antidote to excessive caution, an uplift for the sour pessimist, and an elixir to scatter old habits of fear, fussiness, and humbug."

"A, as in Amos, Kate, David, etc. Again, this sound partakes of the basic 'creativity' pattern that We described with respect to the A sound in father. However, it adds assertiveness to the personality and sometimes an abruptness that can offend others. On the positive side, this trait can provide protection and strength to the soul who in past lives allowed others to dominate it. The negative aspect is, of course, the risk that self-assertion will turn to abrasiveness and a tendency to rub others the wrong way. Thus, the challenge here is to learn to be assertive and independent without the grating manner that estranges the affection of others."

"The sound itself is a grating one to the ears due to the number of higher harmonics present, and, indeed, the quality of abrasiveness and prickliness is often found in most of those who are labeled with this sound. The purpose of such labeling would be to set up an obstacle to smooth relations with others, which the individual would have to work at to overcome. With effort, of course, this can be accomplished, but it requires considerable self-knowledge and the ability to see oneself as others do."

"E, as in Betty, Edward, Ted, Fred, etc. This sound is the closest to the ideal sound for E that appears in the English language. This vowel sound is that of fruition, of the bringing of anything to perfection or completion as well as the principle of the nurturing and protection of new life. As such, it is, to some extent, the vowel equivalent of the consonants M and N, since fruition is one of the key ideas associated with nurturing and domesticity."

"Those tagged with this sound find, in their basic personality patterns, a strong urge not only to nurture and care for others, especially children, but also to bring forth and encourage new traits within their own being. The challenge of this sound, when prominent in the name of an individual, is to avoid manifesting reclusive and retiring tendencies to an excessive degree. The purpose of this labeling is usually to add a characteristic which is incomplete at The Level of The Higher Self or which will be required in the present experience due to the plan for the life."

"I, as in ski, seen, clear, etc. This sound occurs more in names spelled with E, EA, or EE (Steve, Jean). This sound is that related to the going forth into the world, the breaking of new ground, the blazing of new trails. It is a sound produced by a certain tenseness in the back of the mouth, and this represents the energy and force conveyed by the sound itself. Those who have the sound in their first name are endowed with more in the way of energy and power than would otherwise be the case. They have, in most instances, been given this quality as an overlay gift in order to allow them to accomplish more in the life than they might have been able to do without it. Sometimes it is given to provide fortitude and courage against the onslaught of a life-pattern which is more difficult and more karmically involved than the average."

"In this tonality is found the essential Martian energy that blazes new trails, breaks new ground, leads others to a better, broader vision, and challenges outworn ways of doing things. As with all manifestations of this kind of assertive energy, the primary test is to avoid interpersonal rivalries and resentments that can cloud the private life of an individual."

"Small children are aften called by name variations that end in this EE sound (Tommy, Jimmy), which adds a bolt of extra energy to the child. If a youngster seems apathetic or habitually tired and does not already have this sound in his name, it could help his general energy level to start using a nick-name that includes the EE tonality."

"I, as in Timothy. This sound conveys the feeling of brotherhood and friendship. One who has this tonality in his name will be more inclined toward generosity and goodwill than would have been the case without the sound being present. He will also be generally supportive and encouraging toward others."

"O, as in Toby, Otis, and Homer. Here is found the expansive Jupiterian energy of increase, growth, and maturing. This sound is that of expansion, broadening, developing, growing. The idea of largeness is also present. Those to whom this sound has been given have received a special gift, for it brings into the life-pattern more in the way of success, achievement, and what is seen as 'luck' than would otherwise be the case. In almost all such instances, The Guides have arranged the sound-label in order to give to the individual a life-pattern which he has deserved due to actions in previous lives by which benefits came to other people."

"The positive side of this sound often includes a tendency for the life-pattern to be marked by good fortune, bounty, and protection. Conversely, the challenge here is to avoid the self-satisfied smugness of success by cultivating an appreciative attitude toward The Source of all benefit, The Godhead."

"U, as in Susan, June, and Lulu. This sound contains the opposite of the O, namely the ideas of contraction, limitation, decrease, termination, and coldness. It is interesting that, in order to pronounce this sound, the mouth itself must be closed down to a small orifice. When a person is labeled with the U, the principle of limitation becomes strongly imprinted on his subconscious to such an extend that the individual himself will often tend to act in a way that will bring restriction into his life."

"When this sound is the one intended by The Guides, there is usually a substantial amount of karma still to be dealt with by the individual. Normally, the restrictive influence is felt most strongly in the personal emotional life, and when this kind of limitation is observed in the private life of one who is U-labeled, it is a fair conclusion that the sound was intended. From a cosmic point of view, the meeting of karma through restriction and limitation is the positive side of the sound. The challenge, of course, is to avoid bitterness, resentment, and envy by realizing that all things serve a purpose and that the gift of loneliness is inner strength."

"Those who are labeled with this sound will generally find that there is some area in their lives where they feel incomplete, frustrated, cheated, or whatever. This may be in the career, in love, or any other of the main departments in which the life is experienced. When an individual is labeled in this way, it almost always is in order to signal to his subconscious the idea that the limitations he feels are there for a purpose (karmic) and also in order to help foster the very kinds of limiting experiences which it denotes."

"U, as in the French word purete' and the German u found in Munchen. These 2 sounds are not exactly the same, nonetheless the character trait associated with the sound is uniform. It is that of coldness in the emotions. The great task before those who are so labeled is to try to open up their emotional love-nature to others, for it is here that they themselves suffer the most."

"U, as in the word 'us'. The primary effect of this sound is to impart a quantum of idealism to the basic nature. The challenge here is to avoid a tendency to become picky or critical because people or circumstances do not measure up to the inner ideals."

"There is a close correspondence between the vowel meanings given above and the 5 'naked eye' planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. These are given here in the correct order away from The Sun."

"Mercury rules the mind and the intellect. Its letter, A (father), relates to creativity, which is essentially a mental act as seen from The Higher Planes."

"Venus is the planet of beauty, affection, and love. It is by far the most fruitful of these 5 planets and thus fits well with the sound E (let)."

"Mars is the planet of energy, power, and drive, thus tying in with I (ski)."

"Jupiter is the significator of expansion, increase, benefits, and largeness, thus fitting well the keywords for O (stove)."

"Finally, Saturn is the astrological symbol for that which appears to limit, restrict, deny, or delay. It is thus well correlated with the sound of U (lute)."

"Having covered the vowel sounds, it is now appropriate to deal with the consonants in alphabetical order."

"B. Essentially, this letter connotes the enjoyment of physical pleasure for its own sake. In some of the cases in which The Guides intend the sound to be present, the purpose is to encourage the individual to loosen up and enjoy himself to a greater extent than he has in recent experiences. Many souls have lived ascetic lives of self-denial, refusing to enjoy the simple pleasures of earth existence (and often requiring others in their families to do likewise). These traits, if they become ingrained, can strangle the natural optimism and enthusiasm of the soul and, in time, become a stumbling block to advancement."

"However, in a majority of the intended cases, the purpose is to alert the subconscious to the fact that the soul has allowed physical pleasure to govern its earth experiences too strongly, resulting in lost ground from a spiritual perspective. The hope is, of course, that by encouraging an even greater and more reckless plunge into sense-pleasure, the individual will come at last to realize that physical excesses lead only downward and can never uplift the soul."

"There are, as We have intimated, many instances where the letter B is not of particular significance for the person who has been labeled with it. In such cases, the individual should simply be aware of the major challenge of the sound, namely to enjoy life without becoming entrapped in any of the pleasures which physical existence makes available."

"C. There are 2 ways of pronouncing this letter. It becomes the hard K sound when followed by A, O, or U, and it sounds like S when followed by E or I. Refer to the material for K or S depending upon the sound assumed by C."

"D. The sound D is a very heavy, dull sound with undertones of suppression and strain. It results from the sudden release of air in the throat due to a movement of the tongue away from the roof of the mouth. In the English language, D occurs in a wide variety of words, but it tends to crop up regularly in words with a heavy or negative meaning: death, dearth, dull, disaster, die, etc. The sound of the letter D, when tied to a person through his name, does not act to bring these particular concepts into play in his life, however it does exert an influence which tends to shape the life-pattern such that a certain aloneness will be noticed."

"The idea of being alone or of having to spend time by oneself is present in the life. This can arise even where a person is apparently surrounded by family or friends on a continuing basis. In such a case, the feeling of isolation would be within the person and may result from a emotional suppression or the like. Souls who must, for karmic reasons, go through a period of loneliness and separation from others are labeled, so to speak, with the sound D. Of course, not everyone who has the D in his first name will recognize this effect in his life, but comparison with the lives of others will usually show how the effect has manifested."

"Whenever this letter is enclosed by 2 vowels, as in Ada or Ida, its effect is increased. Some intensification of the effect is also present when the D is only preceded by a vowel, as in Edward."

"Under the D label are found those who, even when surrounded by family or friends, still feel isolated and alone. Here too are found the ones that are required, for karmic purposes, to be literally by themselves -- often without a spouse or partner for at least a portion of the adult life. Where the D was not meant to be a part of the labeling, the primary effect operates subconsciously to cause the individual to assume attitudes and undertake actions that, by themselves, produce the isolation for which the letter primarily stands."

"The avoidance of this letter represents an opportunity for parents to shelter a newborn from at least some of the self-generated experiences of loneliness and isolation that it would likely have produced for itself if the letter D appeared in the first name. Remember, however, that all letter sounds have a positive side. As with the letter U, the letter D often allows an individual to set aside a greater karmic burden than would otherwise be the case."

"Even if the D is avoided in the given or Christian name, a child will sometimes acquire a nickname that reintroduces it. If that occurs, it is highly likely that the child's Guides are behind it and that They feel the child will be advanced spiritually if the D sound is allowed to remain."

"F. The sound of F in any name generally indicates that the early home experience of the individual will be an arena in which a number of karmic patterns are met. Often there is a restrictive atmosphere in the home or a lack of support or affection. We emphasize that this is not a letter that can be used to manipulate life-events. The karmic patterns must be dealt with regardless of whether The Guides can manage to tag the individual with the F sound if that is what They wish to do. Thus, parents cannot protect the child from adverse home conditions merely by avoiding names with the sound F in them. The only way to accomplish this is to ensure that your own actions and attitudes are conducive to a warm and happy home experience for your child."

"This sound generally denotes the likelihood that the home of the individual will be the primary arena in which his negative karma will have to be met. The home experience for an individual who is F-labeled will tend to be one which he views with regret, sorrow, or frustration. The purpose for labeling an individual with the sound F is to promote a situation in which karma will be met. It may also be a way in which to develope an appreciation of the concept of the home which may have been missing or neglected in some way in previous incarnations."

"G. This letter has 2 pronunciations in English. When followed by A, O, or U it has a hard sound (gall, gopher, gun). When followed by E or I, it has the softer sound of J (gelatinous, gin). Some GI words have a hard sound however (e.g. gift). Here We will deal only with the hard sound. The soft sound is described under J."

"The hard sound (gun) tends to lend a pugnacious streak to the personality, an inclination to rush into battle with minimal provocation. In some cases, where the individual has been something of a cowardly custard in previous lives, this sound is needed in order to overlay the traits of gumption and forcefulness. Many souls have suffered such pain in recent experiences that they shy away from any physical confrontation with others. However, this fear is a stumbling block to the soul, principally because it leads to a lack of trust in God's providence. Hence, for certain individuals the sound of the G can be a great gift."

"For others, however, who already have enough pluck to look after themselves in a fight, the hard G sound will merely accentuate the violent tendency. Here is where the parents must exercise what wisdom they can, for to G-label a soul that comes in spoiling for a fight (as many do) will simply present an even harder challenge for that entity in incarnation, i.e. how to deal with others in a non-violent manner."

"One method of approaching this problem is to consult the astrological chart of the newborn in combination with the inherited, genetic tendencies. Astrologically, if the infant has a powerful Mars (conjunct, square, or opposite The Sun, or in Aries or Scorpio or Capricorn, or in the 1st or 10th Houses), it would be best to avoid the hard G sound in the name. Likewise, if the direct genetic line contains more than one dedicated scrapper, then again the hard G sound should be avoided. However, if the astrological chart has a very weak Mars or the child comes from a long line of Milquetoasts, then the hard G can improve the spunkiness in a desirable manner."

"H. This sound tends to lend a certain control over emotionalism in general. It lends a note of coldness and undemonstrativeness to the nature. There is often a tendency to hold back affection and to be unfeeling towards others. The life-pattern is usually marked, in some way, by early sorrow which has accentuated this inner tendency to withhold any show of affection. If the person does not reverse the process and acquire some degree of warmth and affection toward his fellow man, then the life-pattern will end in loneliness and despair."

"This can be a boon to those souls who habitually give in to emotional excesses. However, for one who already is closed and undemonstrative, being tagged with the H sound can produce a marked coldness of the affectional nature and a disinclination to undertake any emotional interchange with others. Again in this case, the parents must exercise judgement. If the genetic line is marked by over-control of the emotions, then the H should probably be avoided. However, if the newborn has direct ancestors who are or were given to emotional excesses, flying off the handle, rash infatuations, or impetuous behavior, then the H-label might well bestow a needed measure of control and balance."

"J, as in John or Justin (also the soft G as in Gerrard). The English language pronunciation of this letter tends to produce a critical and judgemental pattern at the mental level. Interestingly, these traits often are found in the Virgo personality, and just as in the typical Virgo, the J sound also overlays an idealistic streak. Essentially, however, the J sound is a stimulus for the mind. That is its major positive effect. The challenge is, of course, to avoid the excessive pickiness and fault-finding that so often marks those labeled with this sound."

"We would suggest that children who already have a marked dose of Virgo in the natal chart (especially if The Sun, Saturn, or Mercury are in that sign) should be given a name free of the J sound. They will likely turn out to be critical enough without the added challenge of dealing with the J effect. On the other hand, a child whose chart shows a weak Mercury (mental abilities) could benefit from being J-labeled."

"This letter is comparable, in many ways, to the astrological failings of the Virgo, namely a tendency to judge others and to be overly critical. There is also the high idealism that is found in the typical Virgo personality, but this too tends to be stretched too far and to be unrealistic. What both the Virgo and the J-labeled individual must learn is that all who have come to The Earth are flawed and imperfect, and so are they. One should not look for the perfect individual to love, for such does not exist. Rather, one should love others for their failings -- not in spite of but because of. It is these flaws which give to each human soul its uniqueness. And if God can find these foibles lovable, surely Man can do the same."

"K, as in Kathy, also the hard C as in Colleen and the CH in Christine. The gift of this sound is summed up in the word multiplicity. It overlays a broad spectrum of interest in the world and a certain degree of versatility (though not to the same extent as the letter T). There is a discernable liveliness present, a kind of bounce that uplifts others. On the challenge side, however, there is a tendency to be a bit prickly with others, or at least others tend to perceive the prickliness. Also, it is difficult for K-labeled individuals to put themselves in the place of others and to foresee the likely effects of their own actions on those around them."

"On the negative side, there is the typical Gemini tendency to be somewhat prickly with others and often critical. The Gemini loves to say things merely as an experiment to see how someone else will react. They love to stir people up, and often they do not think ahead of time about how that person might be reacting to the words or how they might feel as a result. This inability to put oneself in the other person's place is also present to some degree in the individuals who are K-labeled."

"L. This sound denotes the learner, the one who will feel impelled throughout life to continue to acquire new knowledge and understanding. Often, this will mark the person who is forever taking one course after another or reading extensively in one subject after another."

"Where possible, The Guides attempt to label, with an L, those souls who have come to The Earth Plane with a definite plan to make substantial progress in spiritual terms and who know that, for them, this can only be achieved by broadening the mental understanding at the same time. Parents who wish to add this impetus to their child may decide to include the L in the first name. Be aware, however, of the major challenge of the sound, namely a tendency to become so bogged down in details that one cannot see the forest for the trees."

"The L sound denotes an early stage of anything, a child-like quality of innocense, simplicity, or naivete. An individual who has this letter in his first name is being reminded, at the unconscious level, about the necessity of working and studying in order to learn the things which the soul needs to allow further progress in the spiritual sense. Often those who have the sound L in their first names will feel a constant compulsion to be learning, although, for most people, this drive will center on practical subjects. However, for a minority who are lucky enough to have encountered the realms of The Spirit, there is usually an instant recognition of these areas as those to which the attention should be directed."

"M and N. These sounds lend a nurturing and protective quality to the personality and are often selected by The Guides when a soul has insufficiently developed that maternalistic trait at The Soul Level. The challenge of the sound is to avoid reclusive and close-binding tendencies. The general pattern is that of the Cancer personality in Astrology, and just like the Cancerian, one who is labeled with M or N must strive to avoid a tendency to take offense when no offense is intended."

"These sounds signify home, hearth, domesticity, the nurturing instinct. They are analogous to The Moon and the sign Cancer in Astrology and to the number 2 in Numerology. Those whose first names contain these sounds will tend to show the home-loving and domestic tendencies to a greater extent than would be the case if their names were free of the sounds. Most of the time, The Guides arrange to label a person with the M or N when, at The Soul Level, the traits associated with these sounds are lacking. Thus, the purpose is usually to instill into the lower self (ego/personality) a counter-balancing quantity of this tendency in hopes that the trait at the lower level will, to some extent, be absorbed by The Higher. In this manner, the lopsidedness of The Higher Self will be corrected."

"P. This sound is used by The Guides to strengthen the sexual drive of an individual when there are reasons to expect that the sexuality will be suppressed or undeveloped. This can happen in the first few lives after a Soul has changed the sexual identity in which It manifests. It can also happen when an individual has suffered much pain in association with sexual expression in past lives and has become frightened of the sexual experience in a general way."

"When the letter P is applied to one who has a normal sexual drive, however, he or she will have to learn to master the augmented procreative urges. Otherwise, those urges will dictate behavior and attitudes toward others and, in extreme cases, can totally disrupt the life-pattern by impelling the individual to take actions that normally would have been avoided. For example, a love affair fired mainly by physical passion (that might not have occurred if the P had been absent) can cause the break-up of an essentially happy home."

"Q. This letter is always followed by U in the English language, but the combination sounds like K followed by a W. Thus, Queen could be phonetically spelled Kween. The traits added by this combination consist of those given under K alone and those given below under W alone."

"R. Here is the letter of pleasure, pure and simple. In this respect, the R is much like the B. However, the pleasure sought by one who has the R in the name tends to be more of a subtle nature than the proclivities of the person labeled with the B. Whereas the B pursues mainly the visceral gratifications of brewed alcohol, rich food, and momentary sex, the R hankers after more refined pleasures: the feel and texture of fine clothing, the subtly pleasureful distinctions between world-class wines, the excitement of owning a fast and powerful car."

"As with the B, The Guides use this sound to add an appreciation of the pleasing aspects of life to one who has turned his back on them in previous lives. The challenge of this sound, however, is that it tends to turn the attention away from spiritual aspects of life by drawing the focus of consciousness down toward the pleasureful experiences which earth incarnation offers."

"This letter in any person's name will lend a pleasure-seeking aspect to the personality which may not be there at The Higher Level. Even the pronunciation of the sound is, in many senses, a pleasurable experience. In other aspects, this letter speaks of one who is at an early stage in the developement of spiritual instincts. The pleasure motif in the life-pattern tends to become a dominant theme, and the individual usually cares little for thoughts of higher things, spirituality, and the like."

"S, has 2 modes of pronunciation. It can be sibilant (hissing like steam escaping) as in the names Samuel and Simeon. Conversely, it can be a sounded S as in Moses. The latter is really the same as the Z, which is dealt with below. Only the sound of the sibilant S will be explained here."

"The hissing S sound is the magnifier, the augmenter. Its basic function is to increase and amplify the meaning of the letter sounds which immediately precede or follow it. Thus, the name Susan will show an increased U-effect (limitation) due to the fact that it is preceded by the S. Similarly, the name Sophia will augment the apparent protective aspect of the O sound. As another example, the name Aster will amplify both the bumptious optimism of the A sound and the versatility of the T. The letters in a name that are not immediately before or after the S will be relatively unaffected by the S."

"It should always be remembered that these effects are merely laid over the traits which are inborn. For this reason, there may be found many individuals who do not appear to manifest the tendencies which We have attached to the letters. Let Us explain with an example. If one finds a person having the name Steve or Stella, one might expect to find a heightened versatility. If one does not note this trait, then it is certain that The Soul projected so little of it into the personality that the name-label with the ST sound had to be applied in order to bring the personality up to average, so to speak. In other words, in such a case the individual might have been hopelessly incompetent without the advantage of the ST in the name."

"T. As briefly mentioned in the preceding entry, the T sound lends a broad versatility to the personality, an ability to do many things well. The sound of T, the explosive release of air from behind the tongue when held against the upper palate, is a great energizer when found in the first name of any individual. When this sound is given to one who has already developed many capabilities in previous lives, the result will be a surprising cleverness, an aptitude for many things, and a talent that extends into numerous fields. Sometimes, when The Guides have selected a soul to perform a number of services for Them during incarnation, the T-sound is used to ensure that the abilities will be a match for the tasks that are assigned."

"However, it is more usual for this sound to be employed in order to bring a laggard up to average in terms of abilities. For this reason, many of those who are T-labeled will not be seen to be particularly talented or diversified in abilities. As parents, it is relatively safe to select a T-name for any child, since this will only increase the individual's ability to get on in the world. The challenge is simply that the interests tend to be so diversified and broad-ranging that there is a reluctance to devote the degree of attention to any one field that is necessary in order to excel in it."

"V. Here is the sound of the victor, the one who overcomes any opposition. All souls who are V-labeled tend, to a greater or lesser extent, to have the attitude that life can be taken by the throat and forced into a desired pattern. They are the people with the firm, confident handshake (especially the women), those who will look you straight in the eye with the steady gaze of self-confidence, never wavering. These individuals succeed by sheer willpower. Even when their innate talents do not exceed those of their rivals, they will win by the force of their determination."

"The challenge of the V, of course, is to avoid antagonizing others by the power of one's personality and to realize, at last, that human values and the warmth of real love outweigh by far the heady but passing euphoria of worldly success."

"Those who have this letter in their first names are endowed with a drive to order their world as they want it, to take the initiative in terms of their own life-pattern. This does not necessarily refer to job or career, since many housewives who do not work outside the home have the letter V as well. In such cases, the urge to take command of the pattern of the life and not be at the mercy of events or the whims of chance will express itself in terms of an ordering of the home or domestic environment."

"W. This sound tends to confer on the person who is labeled with it a tendency to find ritual and ceremony attractive. In many instances, this will result in the individual being drawn toward conventional religion, especially the more ceremonial faiths like Roman Catholicism. As youngsters, they will enjoy being altarboys or choirboys because of the outfits that they wear for these functions."

"In some cases, the letter predisposes the individual to the non-religious arenas where ceremony plays a big part. Politics is an example. This sound is used by The Guides when it is desired to draw into a religious experience one who has shied away from the devotional kind of life in many incarnations. The risk is, of course, that the individual will become immersed in the pomp and circumstance of the reilgion and lose sight of the spiritual truth behind it."

"This letter sound in an individual's name brings a heightening of the natural religious instinct. If this is not strongly present at the level of The Higher Self, it may have been decided to apply the W sound as a label in order to beef up the trait that is lacking. In those who are innately religious, the application of the W provides a very strong impulse in the conventional religious direction."

"X. This letter, when it appears in English names, has the sound of K combined with S as in Rex or Alexander. Hence, the proper interpretation is that of an enhanced or magnified K. (See the appropriate section above.)"

"Y. The letter Y is really a version of the letter I. The meaning is therefore the same as that of the I."

"Z. The sound of the Z (a sounded or buzzing S) has the effect of making an individual gregarious, i.e. the ability to mingle easily with crowds. Mostly, The Guides use this sound when They wish to counteract an isolationist trait in the soul. For example, one who has lived many lives as a recluse, a habitual hermit, could benefit from the Z-label. The challenge is simply to retain a selectivity in the matter of choosing friends. He who has too many has none."

"When the Z is present, it lends to the personality a certain gregariousness, a herding instinct which makes him prefer groups to being alone. The social instincts are quite strong, since this person sees the ability to socialize as essential to his goal: that of avoiding being alone with himself. Unfortunately, such persons often have a flaw in the self-image which is promoting this desire to be in a crowd. Deep down, they do not feel that they are lovable, and therefore they seek they company of others so that they do not have to face the thought of their unworthiness. This trait is a drawback of a serious nature. The man who cannot be alone with himself and be happy in that state can never be totally happy with another person or persons. The ability to love the self is a prerequisite to loving another. To fail at the former means never knowing the latter."

"There are a couple letter sounds which do not occur in English but which We wish to deal with for the sake of completeness."

"J, as in the French 'je'. This sound promotes an over-emphasis on the mental gifts. It is interesting that the very lesson which is shared by almost all who are born into the French culture is precisely that of learning that mental abilities are not everything and that rationality alone can scale only part-way up the mountain of spiritual achievement."

"X, as in the Spanish 'Mexico' and CH as in the Hebrew 'chaim' or the German 'nach'. This sound is that of over-emotionalism. We need say little more about this, for it will suffice for the reader to compare the emotional natures of the groups mentioned in order to grasp quite well what this sound does to one in whose name it is found."

"Finally, We wish to deal with the dipthongs, the sounds represented by 2 consonants placed together."

"TH. This dipthong appears as such only in English, although the sound itself is present in Spanish, in the usual pronunciation of 'c' and 'z'. We are here referring to the unvoiced sound as in Thaddeus. This sound lends to the individual a certain activity of the mind, a liking for mental exercise. Its purpose is just that, to prompt a using of the mental faculties to a degree that was not attained in previous lives. This is only a general observation and would not be strictly true for all who have this label in their names."

"TH. This dipthong when pronounced in the voiced or sounded manner, as in 'that', promotes physical activity. There is a liking for the sporting life and a pleasure in bodily motion for its own sake. The sound also lends to the individual a degree of concreteness and solidity. This may come out in the physical tendency to gain weight after age 35. But when the TH is unsounded, as in 'thin', it stimulates mental activity."

"CH. This dipthong, pronounced as in Charles, denotes a strong sex drive and usually an over-emphasis on sex for its own sake. This sound acts in the manner of heightening of the sexuality."

"SH. This sound, pronounced as in Sharon, is one which brings into the life-pattern more than the usual share of bounty, expansion, increase, and what is seen as 'luck'. It is essentially the Jupiterian sound among consonants. This sound acts like the sound O in Mona, namely an indication of a protected life."

"We must point out that this system is far from infallible for a number of reasons which We have already dealt with. In addition, there are often several consonants and vowels in any given name, and sometimes the indications derived from one will appear to contradict those of another. Nonetheless, the student of this subject will often find, upon persevering, that the traits and/or the life-pattern tend to reflect all of the indicators to a reasonable degree despite any apparent conflict. And generally, the letters sounding first will be more prominent in effect than letters coming later."

"We come now to a brief discussion of the approach to take when selecting a name for a newborn child. There are several considerations. The first is the fact that parents do not normally know which soul has incarnated in their child, nor the basic tendencies of that soul when in incarnation, nor the sounds or names that the soul's Guides would prefer. The second consideration relates to the traits that are applied to the new personality as a result of the astrological chart. The last consideration has to do with the tendencies which might have been genetically passed on to the child from its physical ancestry."

"We should emphasize that the selecting of a name for the child is not the ponderous responsibility that might have been suggested. Do not worry about missing the perfect name for your child. The overlay effect contributed by a name is fairly marginal, and, in any event, the primary responsibility lies with the child's Guides not with you. Simply do your best and all will be well."

"During the weeks preceding the expected birth date, try to open up to any messages which your Guides may give you about the child's likely traits and the names or sounds which They prefer. These may come in dreams, in meditation or prayer, or simply in the 'chance' encounter with one particular name that may attract your attention."

"If you pick up any names or letter sounds, proceed to analyze them using this information, trying to understand or receive from your Guides the reasons why They may wish to have your child tagged with those particular sounds. If you do not pick up any names or sounds, then go about it in the usual manner employed by parents when selecting a name."

"Find one you feel is right for your child and, again, study the meanings of the sounds it contains. Decide whether the overlays of the various letters would be of benefit. Keep in mind the possible factors which the child might have genetically inherited, and consider whether the first name should contain counteracting tendencies. If you have access to the child's birth chart and can understand the filters which are applied by the planetary positions, decide whether there are any prominent tendencies for which an antidote would be provided in the child's name."

The First Year:

"The primary accomplishment of the newborn during its first year is not, as many think, to learn to control its physical body enough to be able to walk. Although this feat is normally attained within the first 13 or 14 months of life, there is another, more significant thing that occurs. The new consciousness learns that it is not an integral part of the mother. While in the womb and for several weeks or even months after birth, the infant retains the assumption which it developed in utero, namely that it and mother are one. However, the day inevitably comes when the little one realizes that there is a fundamental distinction between itself and the mother it loves so much. Normally this recognition arises the first time that there occurs a clash of wills between the infant and its mother. Typically, this clash is over sleep time, i.e. mother wants the newborn to sleep, while the infant holds other views."

"We point out this phenomenon because of its critical importance for the development of the new psyche. It is crucial that the baby feel mother's love despite the disagreement, for otherwise there will arise in the new consciousness a deep-seated fear of asserting itself. Self-assertion will be equated with loss of love, and the fear of this loss will rapidly become part of the forming subconsciousness. From this buried position it can wreak dreadful havoc in later life."

"The way to ensure that this negative assumption will not be made by the baby is for the mother to avoid any expression of anger or strong disapproval while she puts the infant firmly into the crib. She should continue to hold it lovingly; kiss it; murmur the usual endearments. Then, as the infant is lowered into the crib, she can say, in a gentle voice, something to the effect that it is time for sleep now, that the baby needs this sleep, and that mommy will soon come back to play, feed it, or whatever. The explanation of what is happening is important, for at a certain level the new consciousness understands completely what is said to it. However, even more important is the fact that the emotional nature of the child receives the reassurance in the mother's voice and touch, even while she enforces her will on the baby."

"Although We have said that the first occurrence of this clash of wills is the most important, it will be evident that the same attitude should be employed whenever this kind of disagreement arises. Indeed, the single most important secret We can possibly impart for the raising of children, regardless of age, is never to demonstrate anger or dislike toward your offspring, even when disciplining them. We realize that this amounts to a 'counsel of perfection', but the reader will understand why We stress this point as he reads further."

"Returning to the first year of life, We point out that it is not our purpose here to repeat what has been ably covered in numerous other books written by authorities on child-rearing. Consult these books as you watch your child gain skill after skill in the first 12 months, and follow the advice that to you seems correct. Do not restrict yourself to a single book, however, since there is not universal agreement on all points."

"In contrast to these temporal authorities, We see our function to point out certain of the more hidden facts of the process of growth, the aspects that touch on spiritual truth. One of these more obscure truths relates to the stages that the child is experiencing as it grows. As a child moves up through the various phases, it re-experiences the same challenges and successes as have been traversed by The Human Race Itself and, indeed, by each and every soul through its successive incarnations. Essentially, the growing child learns to achieve a conscious control of 3 aspects of its nature in a particular order that cannot be changed. The physical body is first. The Emotional Body is next, and The Mental Body is last. If the youngster is forced to learn these things in any different order, then great damage can be done."

"The initial task for the new consciousness, then, is to learn how to master the physical vehicle to which it has recently been tied. The network of communication with the body's various functions is present from birth, in the form of the nervous system. However, the consciousness must learn which nerve impulses to send in order to move the hands, arms, feet, and so on. When the main external body movements have been mastered, the child first stands, then eventually walks. The physical 'school' is not over, however. There remains the most difficult of the tasks of control: mastering the internal muscles that govern elimination. This often requires at least 2, sometimes 3 years."

"We stress that the sequence of learning is strongly imprinted on the new consciousness. It knows that it must master the physical body before it can learn to control the emotions. Indeed, the training it receives in striving to master the physical is essential to the more difficult task of dealing with the emotional nature."

"In light of the point We have just made, it will perhaps not surprise the reader to learn that there is virtually no point in trying to get your child to make any major progress in controlling his emotional nature until the physical body, including its functions of elimination, has been substantially mastered. If the issue is forced, serious psychoses can result. Many parents find the tantrums of the two-year old particularly trying and often will try to induce the child to control them by punishment, isolation, and so on. But the attempts are almost always to no avail so long as the bowel and bladder functions have not yet been mastered."

"In a very real sense, the consciousness of the child knows that no emotional control should be expected of it until it is in command of its eliminations. Here is the reason: The various tasks of physical control have direct counterparts in the tasks of emotional control. The hands and arms correlate with the ability to love. The legs and feet are associated with the ability to 'stand alone' and be self-assertive. There is no need to explain all of these associations, but there is one that is of utmost importance and deserves careful analysis. When the child learns to control the times when it releases undesirable physical materials from itself, it lays the groundwork for a process by which it can control the manifestation of its own negative emotional characteristics."

"Thus, until the bowels and bladder are mastered, the child simply does not have the tools by which to manage the release of anger, the tantrums, or the many other negative emotional manifestations that show themselves in the first years. The same process extends to the mental sphere in subsequent years, when the child attempts to eliminate from itself any undesirable mental traits or habits that it may have."

"For example, most toddlers are incapable of mental concentration for more than a few minutes and easily forget events that have only just occurred. This is due to a lack of mastery of the mental sphere and cannot significantly be improved until the emotional nature has been controlled. Thus again, there is no point in trying to force an emotionally uncontrolled youngster to expand or improve his mental abilities. It just won't work, or at least not to a satisfactory degree."

Discipline:

"The main purpose of this section will be to convince the reader that, certainly for little children, the amount of discipline needed is normally very small. By the same token, We do not recommend that children be totally undisciplined or that they be given free rein to do anything they wish whenever they wish. Total permissiveness will produce much more severe psychological problems than would have been caused by the minimal discipline necessary to teach the child where the limits to its behavior have been set."

"Indeed, this determination of limits is the principle reason behind about 70% of the so-called misbehavior of small children. They simply want the parents to indicate where lies the line over which they must not step. The earlier the child gets used to running up against these limits, the better for the child and the parents. You will assuredly find that if you do not establish your authority before the child reaches puberty, you will have no chance of doing so afterwards."

"Now, regardless of how you yourself were disciplined when young, you will find that, for most children, little or no physical punishment is needed. By this We refer to the act of spanking, which is the only form of physical discipline that should ever be administered. Indeed, those who ponder the significance of the construction of the human body might readily understand when We point out that the rump of a small child was deliberately provided to constitute the only place where the child can take a blow without danger of damage to the young body. It is well padded, consisting of muscle tissue over bone, and it is away from the more delicate internal organs of the trunk."

"On this point, however, it is important to avoid wildly swinging at the bottom of a child that you are simply holding by one arm. The youngster might attempt to sit down suddenly while you are in mid-swing, and your hand could catch him in the middle of the back where the kidneys are located. This could damage these delicate organs and should be avoided at all costs. For this reason, We strongly recommend that, in those rare instances when physical discipline must be administered, the child be held firmly in a position from which it cannot move. Placing the child in the traditional position over one's knee is acceptible for this purpose, but We generally recommend against baring the buttocks for the spanking."

"Despite our discussion of the preferred spanking mode and position, We repeat that, for most children, a spanking should be a very rare occurrence, if it happens at all. Admittedly, there are some youngsters who need the physical demonstration of your authority due to the patterns of their previous lives and who simply cannot be dealt with or controlled in any other way. However, We point out that, with few exceptions, parents who are likely to be led to read this would not typically be given a child with particularly severe disciplining problems. We strongly urge that other methods of control be tried first and that physical discipline be used only as a last resort."

"The best and most effective method of general discipline is isolation. By this We do not mean that a child should be shut away for long periods or that it should be confined in uncongenial places like dark closets. Assuming the child has a bedroom to itself, this space is ideal for those isolation experiences that may be necessary."

"The confinement of the child in his room must be done with a simultaneous demonstration of love and caring on the part of the parent. The reader may be surprised at this, thinking that discipline should be accompanied by a strong show of disapproval for the offending action. However, it is not so hard to let the child know that you love it even while you are expressing disapproval by carting it off to its room."

"Indeed, you can even make a game of it. Smile and repeat as you carry the child away, 'Gently and lovingly, gently and lovingly', etc. And make sure that you do handle the child in that manner. Your offspring may wail and protest, but he will hear your words and note your smile. This will not be confusing for him, nor will it convince him that you are not really disciplining him. The reality of the isolation will be quite apparent to him. What it will do is to reassure your child that he is still loved. In this manner, the youngster receives the 2 things he needs most: a definition of the limits to his behavior and your love."

"We now wish to discuss the process of deciding when a disciplining measure such as isolation is required. A most important first step is to decide, 'Who is the owner of the problem?'. Consider this scenario. Brad is 3 years old and is fascinated by the different noises some things make when they are banged against other things. His mother is somewhat high-strung, and repeated noises bother her. One day Brad discovers that he can make a very loud ringing sound by banging his plastic tumbler against the masonite table where he is eating. His mother tells him to stop. He looks up, then ignores her and continues banging away. This happens twice more, and then his mother blows her top."

"Now, Brad is not the owner of the problem. He is simply being a normal toddler who has discovered the wonder of noise. The owner of the problem is his mother. The difficulty arose because she could not stand the incessant banging. In a case such as this, the mother should recognize that the difficulty lies with her and take steps to bring the situation to a halt. The most obvious ploy is to remove the offending glass tumbler. If this is not feasible, because she wants him to finish his juice, she could try the technique of distraction. Children have easily guided attentions, if only parents would cultivate the ability to distract them. There are a thousand ways of doing this."

"Another way to approach a child who is doing something you do not like is to literally get down on all fours and look him straight in the eye. This ploy will totally change the attitude of the child, since it gives him a completely unexpected perspective on you. He is used to looking up as you tower over him from what appears to be a great height. Suddenly you are reduced to being his equal. He will no longer feel intimidated by your size, and you will be able to reason with him far more effectively. Many parents do not realize how reasonable and understanding a child can be when the role-playing is suddenly short-circuited."

"If none of these gentler tactics succeeds in attaining the bahavior modification you require, then you may be forced to adopt the isolation response. However, wherever possible, first try to explain to the child what he is doing that must be changed and give him the opportunity to choose voluntarily to change it. Couch the explanation in terms which make it clear that you are preserving this freedom of choice."

"Essentially, We are trying to suggest to all parents that gentleness and love are far more effective tools than shouting and physical abuse for the raising of children. Almost all readers of this will recognize the philosophical rightness of this statement, but not everyone can remember good advice in the heat of a confrontation with a headstrong child. Those currently experiencing difficulties with their offspring are urged to read this section every day for a month and to seek actively to carry out the suggestions it embodies. If, at the same time, they practice projecting love at their child on a regular basis, they will shortly find not only that their attitude changes toward the youngster but that a reciprocal change in the child's attitude can be noted as well. The result will, in most cases, be a general amelioration of the home situation."

"A final point: We realize that many parents will find these suggestions difficult to carry out, due to the vibrational interaction they experience with a particular child. However, this problem usually arises because of past-life difficulties with the individual soul concerned, who, for karmic or learning purposes, has been given to that particular parent as a child. Your offspring do not come to you by chance. Such connections are very carefully planned at Higher Levels before each birth with the hope that in the long run all souls involved will benefit. That is the reason why so many have observed that one's child knows better than anyone else how to press one's buttons."

"But do not despair. All problems are resolvable. Remember that love is the key to success not only in the realm under discussion but for all of life's difficulties. When The Human Race finally awakens to the real meaning of that statement, a wondrous New Dawn will break for the Planet, and the golden sun of true brotherhood will rise in triumph into the waiting sky.

Sexual Roles:

"We are quite aware of the controversy over whether children should or should not be encouraged to pursue certain traditional kinds of activities. In years past, parents would automatically ply their female children with dolls and fluffy toys, at the same time buying baseball bats and tiny-tot hand tools for their sons. Tomboy proclivities in girls were frowned upon, whereas boys who did not throw themselves into athletics were looked on as odd or feckless."

"In more recent times there has arisen the view that these traits in children are 'conditioned' by the expectations within the home and that youngsters adopt certain activities simply because they wish to have the acceptance and love of their parents."

"In actual fact, of course, each soul brings with it into a given life a certain set of traits and predilections which are largely determined by the experiences through which it has passed in previous lives. In addition to these, the youngster receives some 'overlays' genetically from its parents, along with the traits which are impressed upon it astrologically and by the sound patterns of its name. There are additional sources as well, but We have named the major ones."

"Now, it can surely be understood that, with all of these colorings and influences, it is impossible to make any hard and fast rule by which to guide a child into one activity or another. When you take further into consideration that a soul now manifesting as your male child may well have been a female in a string of recent lives (or vice versa), you will grasp the complexities that are involved."

"Nonetheless, We can state that in virtually every case a given Soul has deliberately chosen the sexuality through which it is now expressing and has done so for reasons that are important to the growth of that Soul."
"Keep in mind, therefore, that in Western Society there are certain activities or talents that are traditionally associated with each of the sexes and that any given individual may well have incarnated into its present sexuality in order to learn something connected with one or more of those traits. We do not say that this is true in every case or even in a majority of cases. Life experiences are so varied that no general rule can be proclaimed. We suggest simply that you keep in mind the possibility, as it may well assist you in dealing with your child."

The Teeth and The Subconscious:

"The subconscious is programmed with some but not all memories from previous earth experiences. Only those judged necessary for progress in the current life are placed there during the first year. However, The Guides cannot foresee all eventualities, and it regularly happens that alterations in the contents of the subconscious must be made during the progress of the life."

"Now, this is not a simple matter of plugging new information into the databanks. The introduction of additional memories after age one actually requires a simultaneous change of personality traits, since all of the facets of an individual combine together to produce the personality, including past-life memories. In the first year of life these memories are fed into the subconscious as the toddler cuts its baby teeth, a process which is facilitated by the open fontanelle in the early months. But later on these channels are unavailable, and something in the nature of a crisis must be engineered in order to accomplish the same thing."

"The appearance of new teeth in a child during the first years of life represents an opportunity to introduce various memories into the subconscious in order to help develope the personality in a desired direction. We propose to develope and explain this concept further, so that you as parents can appreciate fully the marvelous changes that take place in your young child as the teeth come in (and then later as baby teeth are replaced by adult teeth)."

"Most newborn infants have no showing teeth. A definite percentage, however, do cut one or more teeth while still in the womb. The presence or absence of teeth at first breath will provide information about the new personality about to develope, and We wish initially to discuss what these various signals mean."

"Consider first the majority of infants who are born toothless into the world. This is the normal condition and signifies that the personality which will develope in the child will not be marked by any significant over- or under-emphasis. Of course, all personalities do have prominent traits that might be considered a departure from exact balance, but here We mean those characteristics which would mark the individual as clearly odd or unusual."

"Now, when an infant is born with one or more teeth already cut through, the specific position of the visible tooth or teeth can be interpreted as pointing to traits or leanings which will become particularly marked in the individual as he developes to maturity. As such, the parents may wish to take note of any character signals that could create a difficulty for the personality in later life and take whatever corrective action might be available in the formative years. We will discuss each of the baby teeth separately."

"In the discussion that follows, We will identify the teeth with the letters T, B, R, and L, standing for top, bottom, right, and left and with the numbers 1 through 5, referring to the teeth in order numbering from the front toward the back. Thus TR1 is the top right incisor, while BL3 is the third tooth on the bottom left. Remember that the paragraphs below apply only in those cases where the tooth in question is already visible at first breath."

"TR1: A flair for violence. Try to avoid the hard G sound in the child's first name (Gary, Gregory, Gertrude, etc.) Be cautious about allowing him or her to engage in sports that encourage violence against others (hockey, football, boxing, etc.)"

"TR2: Overly active and changeable; restless; high strung; a possible larcenous streak due to a failure in previous lives to learn to respect the property of others. Avoid the K-sound in the first name (Kathy, Carlton, Curt, etc.) and seek in the early years to impress on the child the sanctity of personal property."

"TR3: A picky, critical, and judgemental nature. Avoid the J sound in the name (John, Gerry, Jason, Jennifer, Giselle), and in the early years try to show the child that flaws are inherent in everyone. Make him realize that you love him, even though he is not perfect. Do not expect perfection from him or criticize him excessively."

"TR4: A certain lightness of attitude may turn into flippancy and the inability to take anything seriously. Can tend to irritate others with his behavior. Avoid the K sound in the name. Stress the fact that life has a serious side and that some things need to be regarded with respect."

"TR5: A tendency to be sarcastic and to wound others with words. Avoid the J and the K in the first name, and try to teach him to curb his sharp tongue."

"TL1: A nervous disposition, unsettled inner nature, and lack of a base or foundation. A recent life was such as to sap his trust in life or in providence. The antidote is faith. Try to include a W sound in the name and, if possible, one of the protective sounds of O or SH."

"TL2: Same as TL1."

"TL3: An instinctive violent tendency, especially toward close family members (and, in later life, the spouse). More of a problem for boys than for girls. Avoid the hard G (Gordon, etc.) in the first name, and discourage violent or body-contact sports."

"TL4: A strong sexuality is likely to develope in later life. Avoid the letter P or the sound CH (as in Charles) in the name, as this would worsen the struggle."

"TL5: Will tend to indulge self in love affairs in adulthood. Using a J in the first name will make the child more selective and may counteract the tendency to some extent. Otherwise, there is not much that can be done."

"BR1: Be aware of the possibility that the infant is allergic to certain kinds of foods (such as dairy products). The digestive system is delicate and should not be strained. The child may have to remain on 'baby food' longer than usual."

"BR2: A protective influence is indicated for the entire life pattern. Usually marks a soul that has contributed a lot to human betterment in previous lives. Little need to protect the soul further, although this could be done by using an O or SH in the name."

"BR3, 4, and 5: These teeth virtually never show through the gums at birth. If they did, however, they would signify a soul with much yet to learn in spiritual terms. A first name with the letter L would be of benefit by adding an impetus to learn as much as possible in the current life."

"BL1: A soul who tends to disregard matters of faith or religion; one who lacks a spiritual foundation because the attention in previous lives has been focused on worldly things, ignoring the transcendent realities. Select a first name with the letter W and/or L and provide an environment which includes the basics of spiritual truth."

"BL2 to BL5: See BR3."

"We now turn to a more general discussion of the process by which a soul's Guides ensure that various traits and past-life memories are incorporated into the complex which will become the new personality. The basic repository of memories from previous earth experiences is the subconscious. However, as a general rule there is no subconscious as such at the moment of birth. The subconscious is the creature and servant of the conscious mind and only forms as the new subconscious gradually accumulates experiences and knowledge which is appropriate to store there."

"We hasten to add that this experience and knowledge is not merely that which the waking consciousness receives. Indeed, there is much more that is learned and accumulated in the sleeping state than in the waking state, particularly during the first months of life. When the baby sleeps, the consciousnes leaves the new body through the open fontanelle and is taken to what might be termed 'cram courses' in the higher temples (on The Astral Planes). There the consciousness reviews episodes and relationships from previous earth experiences, and as it does so, The Soul or Higher Self allows direct memory of the reviewed events to pass into the consciousness."

"These memories are stored in the forming subconscious, and although they remain accessible to the conscious mind for a while after they are received, this access gradually clouds over until the point is reached, usually before the child learns to talk, when they cannot be clearly summoned up any more."

"However, the feeling of the memories remains. For example, the newly arrived soul may have stored in the subconscious a memory of a life during which it and the present mother were lovers. The details of that previous association would normally become lost to the conscious mind, however the warmth of the affection and the feeling of closeness to the mother would remain."

"Indeed, it was never intended that human beings should retain a clear recollection of past experiences on The Earth Plane. Too much fear and resentment has occurred between too many souls, and if all the reasons for those negative feelings should be clearly remembered, then it would be virtually impossible for The Guides to coax antagonistic souls back together again. The old rivalries and resentments are also the reason why The Guides exercise much care in selecting just which past-life memories should be allowed to enter the subconscious."

"It would not do, for example, to allow a present father and son to recall, even subconsciously, all of the times when they fought each other to the death or stole each other's wives or condemned each other to torture. Instead, The Guides would allow only a fraction of the old problems to be implanted subconsciously, hoping that the natural affinities of father and son will help the souls to overcome the previous problems. Then, as the souls conquer more and more of the ancient hatred and transmute it into affection, The Guides would feed in bits of other lives, giving the souls the opportunity to deal with as much as possible without jeopardizing the successes already gained."

"We have explained previously that additional memories are normally added to the subconscious only by inducing a physical crisis of some kind in the individual. Now, in the case of a young child, the additional memories could be introduced into the subconscious during a typical bout of childhood illness. However, it is common for The Guides to utilize the cutting of new teeth regularly for that purpose. This process is usually accompanied by malaise and a low-grade fever, and such conditions are suitable for the addition of subconscious memories due to the still very plastic nature of the personality. Moreover, the emergence of a tooth through the gums provides a kind of crystal receiver through which The Soul can send down a different kind of vibration. This is why parents often note that their child undergoes a distinct change with each new tooth. Traits appear which were not seen before, and the child's reactions alter."

"All of this is in accordance with The Great Plan for Mankind on this Planet. As the body grows in size, it becomes capable of receiving and expressing more of the soul's traits and more of its essence. The Soul uses the teeth as focal points through which It inculcates the selected characteristics. The chakras are also employed later for the same purpose, but in the newborn the chakras are largely unfocused. That is why the teeth are so important in the early phase of life."

"The symbolic aspect of this discussion will also be apparent to those who contemplate the hidden meaning of things. The teeth will be used to help assimilate food, just as the traits passed down through them (as focal receptors) will be employed to assimilate and 'digest' the experiences of life."

"We now wish to discuss the meanings that can be read by observing which teeth appear first in the infant. Generally speaking, the first 3 teeth will be significant pointers toward traits or characteristics that are likely to be to the fore in the eventual personality patterns. However, We would not consider the indicated traits to be so prominent as to represent an imbalance (as in the case where the tooth or teeth are already cut through at first breath)."

"It is not necessary to detail the specific meanings for the teeth that come through after birth, as they are identical to those We have already given for the teeth that are already apparent at birth. However, the emphasis on the various traits is not as great. The best approach is simply to keep the meanings in mind as you watch your child develope, and if a problem starts to manifest, simply take whatever corrective action appears appropriate to you."

"For example, if your child is born toothless and within the first month starts to cut the tooth We identified above as BR1 (first on bottom right), you would watch for any signs of a food allergy; TR1 (top right incisor) would suggest a certain scrappiness; BL1 would point to inner uncertainties, nervousness and lack of confidence; and so on."

"A similar approach is valid for the replacement of baby teeth with adult teeth. Take note of the first 3 teeth to be replaced, and look for signs or indications in the personality which correspond to the meanings given earlier."

"A further point should be made here. When any baby or adult tooth is markedly unusual in its placement or appearance, you may assume that the corresponding trait or characteristic will be prominent in the personality -- at least for as long as the tooth is noticeable. Sometimes it happens that a particular baby tooth is unusual but is eventually replaced by a perfectly normal adult tooth. In such a case, the related trait will be in evidence only during the early years. The appearance of the normal adult tooth will indicate that the problem or characteristic has faded to a more normal level."

"An example might help to clarify this process. Consider a young girl who developes normal baby teeth, having been born toothless. However, at age 2 she falls against a brick fireplace and damages the top left incisor (TL1). The root is severed, and although the tooth remains in the gum, it turns grey and becomes quite noticeable. This condition can be assumed to have been engineered by her Guides so that, aside from the karmic implications, the evident discoloration can point out that the child is passing through a phase of uncertainty and lack of confidence. During this time, she will require more demonstrated affection, support, and gentleness than usual for youngsters of her age. If the discolored tooth is later replaced by a normal tooth, one can assume that the phase of uncertainty has passed."

Physical Contact:

"We are certain that virtually everyone reading this will know instinctively that small children need and want a great deal of touching, caressing, and kissing. This contact provides them with a basis for self-confidence at a stage prior to the acquisition of verbal skills. It has been amply demonstrated that a serious lack of this kind of physical contact can lead to apathy, illness, and even the death of the child."

"It is not our purpose here to reiterate this basic truth. What We wish to do is suggest particular methods of reinforcement through contact, which can allow a parent not only to bolster the joy and confidence of a child but specifically to help compensate for any perceived shortfalls or exaggerated traits."

"The secret is to touch certain locations on the child's body with either the left or right hand, depending on whether you wish to encourage or subdue the developement of a given trait. Now, in actual fact normal parents constantly touch many of the most important areas instinctively, and the result of this contact is uniformly positive. Let Us give some examples."

"The most common locations for contact are the head and the hands of the child. In the first 3 months, gently caressing the top of the head is extremely beneficial to the infant. Either hand can be used, but there is a subtle difference in effect depending on the hand employed. The energy flow in the right hand of the human being is outwardly away from the hand, while the energy flow in the left is inwardly toward the hand. Thus, by placing the right hand on the top of the infant's head in a gentle, caressing way, the hand energy moves downwardly into the head. This encourages the consciousness to remain in the body, to strengthen its links to the physical vehicle, and to experience reality through the senses. Conversely, by habitually using the left hand for this contact, the upward flow of energy encourages the consciousness to leave the body easily during sleep (through the fontanelle) in order to visit The Higher Realms (Astral) for the purposes of learning and remembering."

"In a general way, any gentle contact with the top of a child's head will be beneficial, simply because The Crown Chakra is thereby stimulated. This will promote the developement of the mental faculties. However, in certain cases it can be of advantage for the child if you use one hand rather than the other for this contact. For example, if the newborn is sleeping significantly more than is normal after a month or so, the regular use of the right hand for this contact can gently encourage the consciousness to remain in the body for longer and longer periods. Conversely, if the infant is awake too much of the time and is becoming cranky and exhausted through lack of sleep, then the regular use of the left hand (and avoidance of the right) can, in many instances, induce the consciousness to leave the body and permit it to have its needed rest."

"When the child is older too, the patting or gentle caressing of the top of the head will continue to be of great benefit. And the same general rule applies as regards the right and left hands. Hyperactive children who sleep less than normal can be helped by using the left hand. Children who daydream excessively or sleep too much will receive a balancing energy if you use the right."

"We have referred as well to other locations on the child's body. Two important areas are the hands of the youngster, and, of course, these are stimulated when the child holds hands with a parent while walking. The desire to hold hands is instinctive in both parent and child, and it is of interest to note that the only way that this can be done is for opposite hands to be in contact. In other words, the child's left is in the parent's right, or else the child's right is in the parent's left. It is virtually impossible to walk side by side any other way, and this requirement of opposite hands in contact was designed for a very important reason."

"The hands (and arms) are the instruments of the heart. They hug, caress, and care for others. Whereas the stimulation of The Crown Chakra benefits The Mental Body, the stimulation of the hands and arms is essential for the proper developement of The Emotional Body. Recall that We said earlier that energy flows out of the right hand and into the left. Now, when a child places his left hand in the right hand of his parent, the energy flows smoothly from the parent to the child. When both hands are reversed, the energy flows from the child to the parent."

"It is a little like the attraction between a south magnetic pole and a north magnetic pole. However, if the child's right connects with the parent's right, the flow is blocked since the energy of each is trying to flow into the other. Try putting 2 north magnetic poles together and note the repulsion which results. The same thing happens with 2 left hands or 2 right hands."

"There are a few other important areas that need regular stimulation from being touched by a parent's hand. One of these is the feet, which symbolically represent the physical body. Many readers will already be familiar with Reflexology, a healing technique based on the correlations between locations on the feet and certain internal organs and structures of the body. In Reflexology, these various locations are rubbed and stimulated with definite pressure, and the corresponding organ or structure in the body is helped by the contact. However, for small children, no deliberate program and no strong pressure are needed."

"Is it not interesting that almost all parents in Western Culture instinctively play 'foot games' with their small children? We refer to tickling: 'This little piggy went to market' and many others. All of these playful stimuli provide a wonderful toning effect for the youngster's internal organs and systems as well as promoting healthy growth. Of course, they also serve the function of binding the child and parent closer together in love, as they were meant to do."

"A word is in order here, however, about specific contact locations that can help with certain abnormal conditions found in some small children. If, for example, the senses are defective in any way (sight and hearing especially), use toe-games regularly and squeeze the various toes slightly more than normal as you do so (without causing any discomfort to the child, of course). If your youngster has digestive problems, gently rub the soles of the feet as often as he will allow it, and definitely tickle that location whenever possible. For a small child, tickling is actually more effective as a stimulant than deliberate rubbing or pressure."

"Many parents and children enjoy games in which the underarm location is tickled. And well they should, for this activity strengthens and stimulates the lungs and the general breathing apparatus. The same benefit comes from tickling any location on the ribs."

"Some readers will be familiar with the fact that oriental acupuncture techniques make much use of locations on the ear for stimulation. The entire body is reproduced in the microcosm of the ear, and if a parent fondles and plays with the ear of a small child regularly, this will promote healthy growth of the various body systems and organs and especially will aid those internal functions in the throwing off of wastes and toxins."

"Finally, We wish to mention The Solar Plexus (The Manipura Chakra), which is an area just above the navel. This region requires regular stimulation as well, preferably through tickling, because it is the location through which most of the physical energy is transmitted into the body from The Higher Self or Soul. Regular contact with this area will promote strong muscles and general good health."

The Problem Child:

"Some youngsters are known as 'problem children'. They can be deliberately cruel to animals and younger siblings, can throw tantrums, and can be defiant towards parents or any authority figure. There is a special approach to dealing with these children which We wish to reveal here, and which We hope will prove of benefit to those brave parents who have volunteered to bring into the world those souls who were forced to come against their will. We make this statement advisedly, for in almost every such case the entering soul had no choice but to return again to meet its karma or to learn the lessons set for it."

"This requires something of a brief background discussion. Normally, a soul has the right to choose when to return to physical incarnation. This decision is usually made in consultation with the soul's Guardian, its various Guides, and Teachers and any other Entities with a strong interest in the advancement of the soul in question."

"However, there are certain instances in which, at least temporarily, the soul loses its right to be in control of the decision process. In effect, the choice is made for it by others, usually a 'committee' incorporating its Guardian and some of its Guides and Teachers. This virtually always happens when the soul has taken its own life in the most recent earth experience and is usually the case when the soul has murdered another in cold blood or contributed in a significant way to genocide."

"Because of the karmic burden that must be faced by such souls, there is usually a marked disinclination to enter the life experience in which the karma must be met. In many such cases, the soul attempts to deliberately sabotage the gestation and birthing process. It can do this by twisting the fetus in the womb in order to wind the umbilical cord around the neck, thus attempting to cause strangulation during birth. Most serious complications arising due to the movements of the fetus are in this category."

"Another interesting condition is breech-birth, in which the fetus has turned about and presents the feet or buttocks toward the birth canal rather than the head. Often in these cases, the soul had been willing to enter The Earth Realm when the pregnancy began but changed its mind part way through because the perceived burden of karma and the difficult experiences planned for the life seemed to the soul to be too much to deal with. The fetus, therefore, turns around so that the head is directed back up toward The Summerland (Upper 5 Levels of The Astral Planes) rather than downwardly toward The Earth Plane."

"It must be understood that the prospect of an earth life appears differently from The Astral and Higher Realms than it does from the vantage point of the womb. This is due to the fact that time is differently perceived. Between lives, the duration of a lifetime seems but a fleeting thing, soon completed. However, time becomes a ponderously slow moving thing to the soul when it is in the fetus, and the same lifetime -- with all its planned pain and limitation -- can seem to stretch out before one like an eternity. That is when the soul sometimes changes its mind."

"With regard to these souls, it must be understood that they are not all in the suicide or murderer category by any means. In fact, only a minority have this sort of immediate background. The remainder are simply souls who have much karma of various kinds to set aside in this life and who doubt their ability to handle the experiences."

"Not all 'problem children' have birth or gestation complications, of course. In many cases, the soul does not wish to link itself with the fetus and thus is unable to exert the kind of muscular control necessary to cause the difficulties We have been discussing. We have mentioned the typical background of most birth-complication children merely to give parents of such youngsters some knowledge of where they are coming from and, hopefully, some compassion for their plight."

"Let us now turn to the matter of dealing with 'problem children'. Remember that these souls are troubled, usually face a heavy karmic burden in this life, and have much internal anger and resentment due to having been forced into an earth experience. Sometimes this results in attempts, either conscious or unconscious, to inflict damage on the physical body. Such children will tend to be accident prone or deliberately bang their heads or other body parts against hard surfaces or pinch themselves. Most often it is signalled by obstreperousness, tantrums, screaming fits, and aggressive behavior toward animals and younger children."
"Now, We hardly need to point out that what these children need is love. Almost all child-rearing authorities are in agreement on this point. However, not all authorities can explain just how to go about loving a child who consistently returns anger for affection and disobedience for kindness. We wish here to provide some pointers in this direction."

"Firstly, it is important for the reader to understand that it is not a 'failing' for a parent to find it difficult to love a given child. We have pointed out above that children are often given to those with whom they have had problems, rivalries, and antagonisms. In such instances, the vibrational mismatch will still be there, at least in the early years of the child's life. Until these difficulties can be resolved and harmonized, the parent will find it difficult to feel any spontaneous 'love' for the child in question."

"But We say that love does not have to be spontaneous and unforced to be effective. Love is love no matter how it is projected. In this section We wish to discuss ways of projecting love toward a child for whom your love does not flow naturally."

"When the emotional river runs dry, it can be re-started by the use of the mind. Remember that, although this Race of Mankind was intended to develope the capacity for Christ-Love to the maximum possible level, that ability was always intended to be under the control of the mental faculty. As Edgar Cayce used to say, 'mind is the builder; mind is the master'."

"The secret lies in your ability to visualize, knowing that anything which you consistently project frrom your mind through the power of visualization will assuredly come into being on The Physical Level. There are a few techniques which We wish to mention."

"The first technique relates to color. When you are in the same room with your child and he or she is occupied with some game or toy (leaving you free to concentrate), picture a pink light bridging between your heart and your child's heart. Strain to actually see this colored bridge, for as you do you will be forging a new link between the 2 of you that was not there before. Do this not once but several times every day. Do it when your child is asleep as well. Stand in his room and visualize the bridge of pink light."

"While you are carrying out this visualization technique, allow love to pass between you along the bridge. The longer you continue this exercise, the easier it will be to feel love moving along the bridge."

"Another way to help the 'problem child' is to program him while he sleeps. When the youngster has been asleep at least an hour, go into his room and begin whispering to him certain phrases designed to modify his behavior in a more civilized direction. If he is cruel or mean to a younger sibling, say something like, 'You love your little sister and you like playing with her'. Try not to use the negative word, 'not', in what you say, because in some individuals the subconscious does not hear this word. Thus, if you say, 'You will not hurt your little brother.', the subconscious may hear, 'You will hurt your little brother.', and the benefit of the technique will be lost."

"If the child has screaming fits, you may wish to say, 'You are happy and in control of yourself. You want to please your mommy (or daddy). You can get what you want without screaming.' (The word, 'without', can be used.)"

"We will leave readers to devise their own programs to suit particular problems evidenced by their children. Spend at least 10 minutes each evening on this part of the program, and you should see results within a week or two."

"Finally, We want to discuss a technique which currently is not well known on The Earth Plane but which in past civilizations was very effective in calming excitable children and in modifying obstreperous and aggressive behavior. This technique is again a matter of making physical contact with the child in a particular location: on the head, back from the ear, and just below the cranium. Specifically, the point lies between the sterno-cleido-mastoid muscle (which runs up the side of the neck) and the trapezius muscle (at the back of the neck on either side of the spine). You will find a slight depression here. Those who may be familiar with the healing technique called Jin Shin will recognize this as the point numbered 4. In the Ray point-holding technique, it is known as the STO."

"Of course, the point is double, located on both sides of the head in back. In order to carry out this technique with your child, simply persuade him to lie with his head in your lap, perhaps while you tell him a story. With some of your fingers caress the head generally or play with his ears or hair, but ensure that you have at least one finger on each of these points -- preferably a left and a right finger. If you can be inventive enough about the other activities being carried on as you hold these points, the child will look forward to this time together with you and will willingly allow you to keep the contact for an extended period of time. We recommend that you aim for about 10 minutes per day, although you may have to work up to that."

"It is not necessary to press or push into these points. Simple finger contact will be quite sufficient. The basic idea is to stimulate certain nerve plexuses that are just inside the head at these locations, because much of the difficulty within the child is associated with blockages in these areas. By freeing the nerve complexes here, the entire nervous system will benefit greatly, and the feeling of wholeness that will result in your child will go a long way toward overcoming his objectionable behavior."

The Feet:

"We have briefly mentioned the importance of tickling your youngster's feet and playing toe-games with him. However, the feet are of such critical importance to the proper developement of your child that We wish to make additional comments here."

"To begin with, always ensure that the shoes your child wears are not too tight. No restriction or binding should be felt by the child when he is walking or running in his shoes. Any compressive pressure of this kind can seriously interfere with the function and growth not only of the feet but of the internal organs to which the feet are connected through the pathways of Reflexology (the meridians in The Aetheric Body)."

"Most readers will be familiar with the techniques used in certain ancient Chinese civilizations whereby the feet of young girls were bound up to inhibit their growth. It was considered a mark of beauty in that culture to have very small feet, and this was the justification for the cruelty of the technique and the excruciating pain which the youngsters continually felt. However, what was not appreciated by the Chinese of that time was that it was not only the feet that suffered by this process. The entire physical body was impeded in its growth and natural functioning, and, as a result, certain genetic flaws were initiated among the Chinese -- imperfections which are still being passed down from generation to generation. These flaws are generally those which lead to premature aging and decrepitude among that Race."

"Whenever possible, young children should be allowed to run barefoot. We realize that in northern countries this is not possible all the time, however when warm weather comes, the children should always be encouraged to go without shoes (so long as it is not dangerous for them to do so). Do not be concerned about their feet getting too cold, so long as the air temperature is above 60 degrees Farenheit. Their feet are generally well padded with protective layers of fat, and the internal parts will not be cooled if they are actively running around."

"The main reason for this recommendation is to allow the contact with the ground to stimulate the different locations on the feet and thus facilitate the growth and developement of the internal organs, structures, and systems. Without extended periods of this contact, especially during running, there is a risk that the physical body will be below par, more subject to disease, and lacking in energy."

"The barefoot times for your child should also include splashing around at the shore of a lake or ocean, because the contact between the feet and clean water will help to remove certain aetheric contamination from the lower extremities. This aetheric contamination is placed there by the body with the expectation that it will be removed through the action of water. As an aside, We point out that baths do not fully remove such toxic aetheric materials. The bath water quickly becomes overcharged with it and usually cannot absorb all of the contamination which is present. For this reason, showers are preferable to baths, even for young children."

Pregnancy:

"Earlier We alluded to the idea that, in order to allow the arriving soul to prepare for itself a body of maximum beauty and symmetry in the womb, it is important to allow it the highest degree of peace and tranquillity. In effect, this primarily requires the elimination of sexual relations between the father and the mother-to-be during the gestation period. We realize that many readers will balk at this recommendation, feeling that their relationship requires the closeness of the sexual embrace even while the wife is carrying. However, there are important reasons for giving serious consideration to voluntary celibacy during the pregnancy."

"In the first place, The Guides Who designed the human form for this planet arranged matters in such a way that a male will tend not to find the large belly of a pregnant female enticing in a sexual sense. This aversion, it was hoped, would promote the maximization of physical beauty and grace in Mankind and would lead to the gradual improvement of this quality over the generations. However, The Guides did not reckon with the power of the sex drive that has developed during the past few centuries. Essentially, the excessive eating of red meat during recent time has stimulated the sexual appetite to a point that has never before been seen among this particular Race. And this custom, in addition to greatly weakening the digestive system of The Race, has also contributed indirectly to its uglification."

"To return to the main point of this section, it is important to understand that, when a man and a woman have sexual intercourse, the nature of the energy which fills both bodies, and especially the portions adjacent to the sexual organs, is rather elementary. In many individuals it is particularly coarse, due to the fact that they have become incapable of intermixing the feeling of true emotional love with the excitement felt at the sexual level. In either case, the sudden flux of sexual energy disturbs the on-going process by which the incoming Soul forms the delicate features (and internal organs) of the fetus, a disturbance which is exacerbated by the rough, jarring activity to which the fetus is subjected during intercourse."

"In consideration of the foregoing, We are certain that if the reader were the intended entering soul, he or she would strongly prefer that the prospective parents cease relations during the pregnancy. And We suggest that the reader should do no less. We are confident that when you see the perfection of form that results, you will decide that the abstinence was worthwhile. Moreover, it is a supreme test of the devotion and commitment of 2 married souls to spend an extended period without the 'glue' of sex to bind them together."

"We suggest that proof of what We have said here will be readily forthcoming if the reader but makes some inquiries. Just ask those of your friends who have particularly attractive children whether they were very active sexually during the specific pregnancies. Though there will be some exceptions to the rule We have explained, We are confident that you will find it to be borne out in the majority of cases."

Santa Claus:

"Many New Age parents are distressed at having to deal with the roster of non-physical benefactors of children -- Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and others. On the one hand, they do not wish to lie to their offspring, even very young ones. On the other, they would not wish to take away from their children the excitement and wonder of believing in the world of fantasy. One solution suggests itself. Try explaining to your children that these various beings are, indeed, real but not at the same level as you and the child."

"Say, for example, that so many children do believe in Santa Claus that their belief actually makes him real in a different dimension. This is not a lie, by any means. Santa, the Easter Bunny, and all such similar beings actually exist on The Aetheric Level." (as a thought-form)

"You could then say that the spirit of Santa is so strong that you, the parent, can be guided by it when buying various presents for your child. Again, this is no untruth. You are, indeed, in touch with the spirit of Santa (actually the thought-form of Santa) when you do your Christmas shopping. A similar approach can be taken to all of these seemingly invented creatures without in the least lying to your child."

Conception and Surrogate Mothers:

"We are going to explain an aspect of the birthing process that may be surprising, even to those who have delved into the esoteric or hidden side of events. This has to do with the moment of conception and the time frame immediately surrounding it. More importantly, it has to do with the emotional vibration between the father and the mother during the embrace that leads to the conceiving of new life."

"It should not be necessary for Us to persuade the reader that, since all things are part of all other things and all things affect all other things, then the emotional climate surrounding the act of conception will certainly color the result of that act. And, indeed, this is so. If that climate is one of deep love, support, and commitment, then it forms a wonderful bridge along which The Guides Who will be overseeing the pregnancy can pass the highest and purest kinds of energy."

"These energies are essential to allow the fetus to traverse the first delicate days and weeks without mishap. By 'mishap' We mean a derailment of the precise order of cell division which establishes the basic structure of the important internal organs. If this process goes off track in any way, the result will be not only a body that is less than perfect but a restriction on the degree of perfection in the soul that can inhabit it. This comes about due to the inflexible spiritual law: 'Like attracts like'. Thus, although a lack of committed love between the mother and father of a fetus does not inevitably produce imperfections in the body, it does make it more difficult for The Guides to avoid such problems."

"It will therefore be seen that an impregnation which takes place in a strictly neutral atmosphere, without any positive emotions attached to it, may lead to complications in the developement process of the fetus. Such a neutral atmosphere is present when an ovum is fertilized in vitro and also is the dominant note during the artificial impregnation of a surrogate mother."

"Moreover, if a surrogate mother knows during the pregnancy that she will not have the baby after it is born, she will tend to detach from it, thus failing to give it the kind of emotional warmth that it needs in order to lay the groundwork for its own ability to love. By this, We do not mean to say that no child born of a surrogate mother will be able to love, for that is certainly not the case. What We do mean to emphasize is that the task before the parents in raising such a child is more difficult, for they must teach the infant after birth all those lessons that it was intended to learn instinctively while in utero."

"Even less do We take the position that surrogate motherhood should be avoided, for We favor any process that produces new physical vehicles through which Souls can experience The Material Plane (whether such vehicles are perfect or not). Our purpose here is merely to explain the more hidden aspects of the process, so that those involved in these kinds of situations can more readily understand the responsibilities which they have assumed."

The Bedtime Story:

"If there is one experience that a child keeps in his heart long after all the other events of youth have been forgotten, it is the bedtime story. When a parent takes the time to spend even a few minutes with a child in order to tell a special story, it signifies to the little one how much he is loved."

"It is not only an evidence of love but an ideal opportunity for the New Age parent to pass on to the child, in symbolic form, a deep understanding of the meaning of life. If it is possible to find stories that are deliberately written to have this effect, then they should, of course, be read to the child. We heartily recommend the 'Narnia' series of books by C.S. Lewis, especially for children older than about 5 or 6 years of age (depending on the breadth of understanding that has developed)."

"We point out as well that for many children a story that is directly told by the parent, by heart as it were, has an immediacy and an intimacy not experienced when the story is simply read from a book. For the younger children this difference is more important, while for children past age 6 the distinction fades."

"Try to use imaginative names for characters in the story, names that have a funny or repetitive sound or are fun to say. This will increase the child's pleasure in listening as the tale unfolds. Also, make a practice of breaking the story regularly to ask the child who various characters are or what happened yesterday, etc. This will stimulate his memory and his ability to concentrate his attention."

"Be firm about telling only so much each night. Ideally, every portion should contain at least one significant point from a spiritual perspective. By feeding these concepts in at daily intervals, the child's conscious and subconscious minds can chew on them during the day. This will greatly improve his comprehension of the principles and avoid the confusion that could result from explaining too much at a time."

"In time, the story starts to 'tell itself', almost as if it had a life or energy of its own. In fact, of course, the story does have a life of its own, the thought-form which you and your child have been creating by engaging in the story-telling process."

"These regular episodes provide a wonderful disciplining tool as well. You will find, in most cases, that behavior will be corrected faster by threatening not to continue the nightly story than by threatening isolation or physical punishment. Of course, you may have to follow through on the threat of story-deprivation once or twice, so that your child knows you are serious."

Epilogue:

"What a wonderful way to teach humans to cherish each other! We speak, of course, of the way souls come to The Earth as the adorable children of other souls. Understand that not all planets and not all Races have the same pattern. In some cases, the incarnated beings simply concentrate their collective minds to precipitate a new body directly from The Aether, and the new body is instantly inhabited by a spiritual being who had been summoned and was awaiting the opportunity to manifest in this way. But for Earthlings, it was determined that the birthing and raising of children would give individuals the opportunity to learn to love those whom they had forgotten to love in previous lives."

"It is not by accident that an infant has such smooth, tender skin, for that makes it a delight for the parents to touch and kiss. It is not by accident that the small child has a high-pitched voice, for that removes his ability to challenge the parental authority through the use of gruff vocal tones. And it is not by accident that the little ones are so free of inhibition when it comes to expressing their true feelings, for that was intended to prompt the adults to be less restrained themselves."

"If you think carefully about what a child is like and how you react to a child, you will be led to new insights regarding the wonderful Plan for Mankind on this Planet."

"And if you do this, you will also be led to a broader grasp of God's Love for all of His creatures. He is like a human parent in so many ways -- loving, forgiving, gently disciplining, teaching, encouraging. Do not fear to call upon His aid at any time. Whenever your footsteps seem to be uncertain, whenever you feel lost in The Blue Woods, close your eyes and call out to The One Who loves unfailingly, and your rescue is assured."

"May the peace and blessing of all The Higher Beings Who
care for humanity's struggle be with you forevermore."
